Ellen forgets Portia’s birthday

Ellen_bday (Getty Images) For those in the gay community who accuse Ellen of not being “gay enough” on her talk show, here’s something you should know.   Ellen is absolutely talking more and more about her life with Portia on her show – especially in this new season -- and it’s going over really well.  She does it all very matter-of-factly – she talks about everyday things with Portia just as a straight talk show host would talk about his or her spouse.

Kathy Griffin's D-listed by Jesus

Kathy (Getty Image) Kathy Griffin at the Emmys: "A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus. This award is my God now!"

Think she expected Christian group Tennessee's Miracle Theater to place a $90,000 ad in USA Today calling her "vulgar"?

I wouldn't put it past her to have done it on purpose (all fodder for the show, darlings), but usually she's more upfront about her publicity stunts.

Hey -- nobody gets to call our girl "vulgar" but us.

"Top Chef" -- I love my big gay chef

Dale_face_2 After a surprisingly cocky Dale treated fans to the best "Top Chef" quote of all time in last night's episode opener ("I'm just a big gay chef, and I'm going to outcook your ass!"), his appearance in the bottom two had me quaking in my orange clogs. His duet of chicken squeaked by in the end, and Big Gay Chef will be going to the finals in Aspen. But I'll eat my toque if he makes it to the Final Two.

PS: I'm not really a chef, but I watch one on TV.

Background: BRAVO

First there was "Queer Eye." Then, the dubious gay dating show "Boy Meets Boy." Next came out "silver fox" Tim Gunn shepherding wannabe fashion designers in "Project Runway," gay fave Kathy Griffin and the world's hottest lesbian on "Work Out." And with queer contestants in each season of "Top Chef," Shear Genius" and "Top Design," it's official: Bravo's the gayest mainstream TV network ever.

Classic “Strangers” clip: Noblet gets Syphilis

Strangers_stephen Stephen Colbert’s talent is downright scary. Long before he became the TV superstar and possible future President of the United States of America, he was already killing on “Strangers with Candy” as Charles 'Chuck' Noblet, a (not so) secretly gay history teacher who gets all historical facts dead wrong.  Watch as the syphilis-infected Noblet grills his students on the murder of John Lennon....

About the bloggers

Jenny Stewart is the award-winning Director of Content at Gay.com and PlanetOut.com. She has been named one of Curve Magazine's 10 most powerful lesbians in music and POWER UP's 10 Amazing Gay Women in Hollywood.

Jenny's currently addicted to Howard Stern TV, "Celebrity Rehab" and "UFC." She says there’s no way she could choose her favorite TV show of all time, but her biggest TV crushes of all time were on Lindsay Wagner and Peggy Lipton.

Clarke Hamlin has been watching TV since before he was born, was raised on Salisbury Steak and Apple Cobbler TV dinners, and the way the Hamlin family tells it, taught himself to read watching "Jeopardy".

Graham Dunstan is a freelance writer and Gay.com contributor who works in the nonprofit arts in Washington D.C. He holds a graduate degree in writing from the University of Alaska Anchorage and has garnered a number of awards for his work. An Atlanta native, Graham dreams of the day "Thirtysomething" is released on DVD so he can place it on the mantle in its rightful place--next to his other all-time favorite show, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Zengkun "Zack" Feng is half New York University undergraduate and half entertainment freelance journalist.  Among his interviewees are Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy and Carlos Santana, all of whom contributed substantially to his rent money (in the form of published articles).  He hopes "Friday Night Lights" continues to light up his Friday nights, and was slawjacked when "Two and a Half Men" became an Emmy-nominated comedy.

Mark Doherty is a college student by day; TV blogger by night. He's currently working on a bachelor’s degree in Communications, and hopes to start a career in writing (and acting) after his June 2008 graduation. He and his boyfriend (an aspiring actor) live in Los Angeles and are too ashamed to admit how much TV they watch.

Paul Florez knew he was in danger of being bullied when he started using clunky scotch tape to hold his glasses together. A former Marvel Comics intern, he’s written for The Advocate, Wizard Magazine, and Queerty.com. He loves shows like “Battlestar Galactica”, “Angel”, and “Buffy” because they make him feel part of a community. His ultimate guilty pleasure includes ordering generic mall Chinese food while watching Desperate housewives.

About the Gay TV Blog

We're here, we're queer -- but that doesn't mean we only watch "Dante's Cove," "The L Word" and reruns of "Queer as Folk."

Welcome to Gay.com's Gay TV Blog. As gay TV viewers, most of us are naturally drawn to shows with LGBT characters and queer sensibilities, but let’s face it -- not everything we watch has to be gay. Sure, we’ll be blogging about the obvious gay faves: "Project Runway," "Ugly Betty," et cetera -- but we’ll also be writing about shows with no obvious gay content but huge gay audiences. Case in point: "Heroes."

The Gay TV Blog will feature everything under the sun about TV -- show recaps; character commentary; celebrity gossip; spoiler alerts; talk show alerts; behind the scenes reports, ratings info and more. We want you to get as addicted to the Gay TV Blog as we are addicted to the shows we’ll be writing about.

Meet the bloggers now.

Jodie in fishnets on "Ellen"

Jodie (Getty Images) When Jodie Foster made a guest appearance on Ellen’s talk show last year, I assumed  the two superstar lesbians were best friends in real life.  They had to be, right?  But once Jodie sat down, the two seemed so uncomfortable I actually found myself thinking this was the first time they’d even met.  Well, it wasn’t – after all, they kept talking about how they see each other occasionally at “the store” in Hollywood – and they also kept giggling so much it seemed odd because nothing funny was being said – trust me.

The segment was sort of bombing, but it got good at the end...

Lesbian-looking Meryl on "Ellen"

Meryl (Getty Images) Last year, my idol of all idol’s Meryl Streep went on the Ellen DeGeneres show and the segment was absolutely fabulous.  Meryl let the silly out for Ellen -- the two played a came of “name that accent” and watching them both get into such an uncontrollable giggle fit was hilarious.

Her acting experience has clearly spilled over into her real life.  She tells a story about not being able to catch a cab on “Meryl Streep Day” in New York with incredible precision and timing.  If telling the story was an audition for a role, she’d have nailed it.

Also -- I don’t care what anyone says – there is no doubt in my mind that Meryl dressed like a lesbian for the appearance.  Take a look – she looks like the cover girl for Hot Lesbian Professor magazine.
