"Heroes" and "The Hills": A Match Made in Heaven

Spencer_and_heidi (Getty Images) Last night as I watched "Heroes" and then sat down for "The Hills," I realized that the two shows really have a lot in common. Much more, in fact, than you would think possible for a comic book type drama and a "reality" show. Let's start with two really important matters that have a lot to do with each other: time travel and hair.

On "Heroes" we have one of our main characters, Hiro, who can travel back and forth in time. Last night he went back in time to try to save his father's life. He even took his father further back to witness Hiro's mother's funeral. The trip back taught them both a lesson about growing up and being an adult. And also taught them that if you piss off an immortal guy, (like say, Adam), he will wait 400 years and then throw you off a building.

On "The Hills," personal trainer Jarett can also travel back and forth in time. Last night the show started with buzz cut Jarett helping the girls--Lauren, Whitney, and Audrina--work out at the gym. Later that night, they are drinking and shooting pool when Jarett appears with longer spikey hair. At first I was puzzled, until I realized Jarett was traveling through time. The next morning, Spikey Jarett goes hiking with Whitney. He even asks her out to dinner that night, but Whitney doesn't appear surprised when it's buzz cut Jarett who meets her for the meal.

As buzz cut Jarett tells her he's newly single and all about having fun and not committing, I understand where this is going. Buzz cut Jarett went back in time to the gym the few days before to get the "Whitney-love" ball rolling. While some of you may argue it's a continuity issue with "The Hills," or even that they had to go back and re-film something and Jarett was such a tool he went and got a buzz cut not realizing it would mess up the flow, eh...that's kind of hard to swallow. It's really the simple matter of time travel and then a bad haircut.

So...what else happened? Eh, Heidi and Spencer fought about getting married when Spencer wanted to elope to Vegas. And then we got previews of next week which showed Spencer's sister! What? How could we not know Spencer has an evil sister? And She-Spencer looks to be just as dastardly as her bro!

On "Heroes" we got to see a big drama between Horn Rimmed Glasses and Bob. They each kidnapped the other's daughter. It was cool. We got to see She-Spencer, I mean Elle, shock herself AND get knocked on her ass by flying boyfriend. That was a real treat. And the show ended with Horn Rimmed Glasses getting shot in the eye and "dying," only to wake from the dead with a pretty new eye thanks to a blood infusion of his daughter's blood courtesy of The Company.

Join us next week when we'll talk more hair and a little plot, and get deeper into the mystery of the approaching "Heroes" finale, or mini-finale, and the sad childhood of Spencer.
