The Office: Gay Witch Hunt

Office_training I've been missing "The Office" terribly lately, and this clip reminded me why. If you've seen it before, do yourself a favor and watch it again. It is Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) in all his painful, endearing glory. If you've never seen it, you are in for a treat. Oscar, an accountant at Dunder Mifflin, has been "outed", and Michael takes it on himself to teach everyone a lesson in tolerance. What follows is as awkward to watch as a lover's spat that takes place in front of a dozen other people, and yet, like everyone else in the conference room, you can't bear to look away.

Fascinating gay topic on "60 Minutes" this Sunday

Stahl No matter how busy you get this weekend with last minute holiday shopping, make sure you set your TiVo to record "60 Minutes" this Sunday night.

Leslie Stahl will be doing what looks to be an interesting report on a gay soldier, Army Sgt. Darren Manzella, who says he disclosed his sexuality to his superiors, but was neither discharged nor reprimanded, despite the military’s "don't ask, don't tell" policy on homosexuality.

Manzella reportedly reveals to Stahl that after "coming out" to his superiors as a gay man (he even claims he showed them a videotape of him kissing his boyfriend), he was told to go back to work.

"I Love New York": Hell, no!

To be honest, prior to this week I hadn't watched a single minute of "I Love New York", and I didn't really have an opinion on it one way or another. When you consider the vast number of similar shows on the network, it seems unfair to single it out, positively or otherwise.

But that was before this week. Whether it's God sending me signs, or simply a mathematical inevitability, I couldn't avoid New York (the woman and the show) this week. It seemed like every time I channel-surfed her corseted boobs were jumping out at me, and the last straw was when a magazine I read infrequently featured her on the last page. So I figure these have to be otherworldly messages, from either up there or (more probably) way down there, and that's why we're here right now.

Project Runway: Tim Gunn makes late night mistakes, too!

Timgunn There was so much build up to this week's episode with Jack's revelation. So, if you haven't yet seen it, and don't want to know, stop reading. But the most compelling thing about last night's episode is not that Jack left, but that we finally saw a glimpse of the Tim Gunn we've all grown to love, but have seen far too little of thus far, and maybe didn't know as well as we thought we did.

After Jack announces he is leaving to seek medical care for an infection, who should appear to take his slot but jolly ol' Chris March, last week's reject. (I am almost surprised they didn't ask Daniel Franco from Seasons 1 & 2 to take another stab). Chris' laugh fills the room, erasing the gloom and doom that Jack's swollen face had cast over everyone. The big question is, will Chris now carry Christian around the way Jack did?

One TV Blogger's Holiday Wish

Steve Dear Santa,

There are many of things I want this year: Dale, from "Top Chef", for instance, although I hear he's busy with that walking mannequin Jack from "Project Runway". Can you do something about that?

World peace would be nice, but I'm sure that's on Brangelina's list, and let's face it, if you aren't granting their wishes, I'm not too confident with the chances of mine.

But what would really be great, for me and all those like me, is an end to the writer's strike. Not for any altruistic reasons, but because I am, dare I say, losing interest in TV!

DVD alert: Mariah's "Adventures of Mimi"

Mariah_mark Mariah fans listen up:  The new live DVD "The Adventures Of Mimi" is Mariah Carey's best effort to prove she stands along side the world's top pop and R&B singers by offering a lavish production of power ballads, catchy hip hop and proven radio hits. Original music video clips of her most popular songs accompany her stage performance on jumbo screens, giving the concert a nostalgic flair.

Despite her impressive five octave vocal range and cameos of Boys II Men and Trey Lorenz, the overall performance seems contrived and over polished. This is best exemplified by her glittery signature "MC" initials crowned at the top a Vegas style stage and Miami pool party costumes.

Project Runway: Where art thou, Tim Gunn?

Tim_alone_2 Am I the only one suffering from a severe shortage of Tim Gunn in the new season so far? He is barely an apparition it seems, only appearing to introduce the challenge, escort the designers to Mood, bring in the models, and act as undertaker for the loser. His interaction with the contestants is at an all-time low, as are the opportunities to see that eyebrow arching ever-so-knowingly over his glasses...what did he do to Heidi to deserve this?

Last week's 5 gayest TV moments

Christophergorham_3 I can't help but think that I'm gayer by 9am than most people are all day, simply because I watch so much gay TV early in the morning.  That being said, here my picks for the five gayest moments on TV last week.  Reasons why are after the jump...

*The dethroned Miss California is a guest on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show"

*Christopher Gorham (pictured) dancing on "Ugly Betty"

My Opinion Only: Is "30 Rock" Gay-Unfriendly?

Tinafey As you can see from my headline, I'm not quite sure what to think of "30 Rock" lately, and remember -- this is just my opinion.

While the show has included gay male characters, none of them lead, support or recurring (although the jury is still out on Jack's assistant, Jonathan, played by Maulik Pancholy), the depictions haven't been particularly positive.   Case in point: In this past Thursday's epsisode, Sasha and Patrice -- the two assistants hired by Jenna -- were blatant gay stereotypes, right down to their ambiguous names. Sasha made Chris "Leave Britney Alone" Crocker look butch, and Patrice had more snaps than Miss J. Alexander. When I first heard about Sacha and Patrice, I had hoped that "30 Rock" would somehow be above stereotyping, and that Sacha would have been some former Soviet spy and Patrice a bodyguard that Jenna has hired away from some C-List celebrity. Guess I was mistaken.
