Tivo Alert: k.d. lang on Logo's NewNowNext Music

Kd_lang (Getty Images) It's funny to look back at the gay '90s (1990s, that is) and reflect on just how big k.d. lang and Melissa Etheridge were back then. As two pioneering gay female singers, they were everywhere, from winning Grammys and hangin' with Brad & Gwyneth (then Brad & Jen...hmmm, is Brad keeping Angie away from Melissa?), to getting a shave from Cindy Crawford on that iconic cover of Vanity Fair.

And while we've all been able to keep tabs on Melissa over the years (for better or for worse), k.d. has been a little lower-profile. So it's exciting news to hear that not only is she coming out with a new album, Watershed, but she'll be hosting Logo's awesome NewNowNext Music on Sunday Feb.3 at midnight ET/PT.

Hot DVD pick: Viggo TOTALLY nude!

Viggo_3_2 (Getty Images)  The best part of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, including the insuferrably long final installment was, of course, the smokin' hot Viggo Mortenson. His turn as a reformed hoodlum trying to outrun his past in "The History of Violence" showed he could be sexy outside of Middle Earth too. But it's his portrayal as a driver for the Russian mob in "Eastern Promises" that finally gives us what we want - an extended scene of Viggo , butt naked, fighting two thugs in a sauna.

Arrested Development: Get Your Fix Here

Batemen2 (Getty Images) The closest-thing to a modern day sitcom classic, "Arrested Development's" reign as the best show on TV was, well, arrested, after only three seasons. And while "30 Rock" has more or less filled its shoes as the best show you're not watching with an amazingly talented cast of quirky characters, "AD" is the gold standard.

Ellen's Birthday Surprise

Ellen_2a   So in honor of Ellen turning 50, a bunch of her celeb-friends were somehow coerced into lip-synching along to "I Will Survive", which was then presented as a "surprise" montage to Ellen.  Note to my family and friends: on MY 50th birthday, this is what I ask you NOT to do.

Miss America Reality Check: Miss Washington's Got 3 Daddies!

Miss_america2 This strange and flawed show, aimed at revitalizing the image of Miss America - from staid and sprayed to sexy and smart - came to a conclusion last night with a red-carpet finale, just in time for the live Miss America pageant tonight on TLC. The "hook" is that viewers of the 4-part series get to vote for who they think should be the winner, and this girl/woman will be automatically entered into the Top 16...and just like real life, you had to make sure you got there before the polls prematurely closed.

"Project Runway": It's in the Jeans

Runway_jan_2 I LOVED last night's episode! The show has hit it's stride and lost the dead weight, actual storylines and character studies emerge. I've been waiting for them to really put a spotlight on the designers, and the montage of Christian dry-heaving and rolling his eyes every second that he had to work with the denim was cah-lassic, as was the shot of Rami flashing TV's hottest smile (you can find it here at the 1:00 mark - heaven!)

Oh, and the other great thing about last night's show? Victorya got auf'd. I was never a big fan of her designs; I think maybe I liked the dress that she won with early on, but let's be honest, she was a condescending bitch, couldn't remember Sweet P's name after all this time (how do you NOT remember Sweet P?!) and the nerve of her to do a coat when she knew Jillian was doing one - quel horreur! She got what she deserved, and even her pouty little sad face didn't save her from the judges' dismissal.

"Torchwood": Time to add more fire to the show

9_torchwood_8_january_2008 There are gay-friendly shows that you champion, and then there are gay-friendly shows that you defend. To me, the first season of "Torchwood" was one of the latter.

The series - which returns January 26th on BBC America - had much going for it before it aired: it was a spin-off of the invincible "Doctor Who" series, it starred the immensely popular Who-niverse character Captain Jack Harkness, and it promised to be a darker and edgier show.  All things considered, comparisons to the successful "Buffy" spin-off, "Angel", were not entirely unwarranted.

Clay Aiken on "The View"

Clay_aiken (Getty Images) I know in my heart of hearts that "The View" is the most terrible show on TV, but whenever I hear people talking about a particular segment on it, I can't help but check it out.

This morning was no exception, with Clay Aiken's appearance to promote his gig in Broadway's "Spamalot". I guess I must have always known this somewhere deep inside, but it suddenly became undeniably obvious that "30 Rock's" Kenneth is modeled on Aiken. Like Kenneth, Aiken is a strangely-endearing man-child, almost an idiot-savant whose not exactly ugly but hard to keep your eyes on for too long without getting creeped out. Unlike Kenneth's boundless positivity however, Aiken wears a big chip on his shoulder.

"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and My Root Canal

Terminator I had a root canal today. It wasn't terrible, believe it or not. You always hear people say, "yeah, I'm looking forward to such and such like a root canal." But I'm here to tell you that although it had its sore moments and a bit of discomfort, overall it was more than okay.

And the reason I bring all this up is because like my root canal the new show "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" really isn't bad at all. I was wary because it's been kind of panned by critics, even though the ratings are high. "Too much action, too little character development," critics have said. Now I don't know about you, but I didn't really watch the "Terminator" movies for character development. Sure, Edward Furlong had a great performance and Linda Hamilton rocked, but the movies were plot driven anyway. And after three episodes of the new tv show, I can say I'll definitely keep watching.

"Runway": Cutting off the dead weight

Tim_gunn_4 After last week's Prom Night fiasco, the designers...and I...were much more excited for the next challenge: design an avant garde look inspired by their models' hairstyles. Finally something the designers can really sink their teeth into. Christian practically peed his pants upon hearing the news.

But of course, they had to do it in teams (this time radomly selected)...and of course, Tim Gunn (whose nickname this season should just be "The Undertaker" - all the fun has been sapped from his job and his mere appearance in the workroom spells gloom and doom for the contestants) reveals a secondary challenge, which is to translate the main avant garde creation into a ready-to-wear second outfit within hours. Gasp! The designers were SO annoyed...you'd think they'd expect these stunts by now.
