Colbert Outs Tony Perkins...as a Big Dummy!

Colbert In the space of a mere five-minute interview with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins (no, not Psycho Tony Perkins...), Stephen Colbert was able to suck the wind out of the anti-gay marriage movement's sails in a way that proves once and for all that Colbert is the most intelligent voice of reason in media today.

Rather than attempt a play-by-play, do yourself the favor of clicking here and watching Colbert make mince-meat of Perkins, whose IQ seems to be decreasing with each passing second.  It is one of the most satisfying conversations you'll have the pleasure of watching, as Colbert nimbly uses the Bible against FRC's agenda and calls out Perkins' other areas of interests, such as racial harmony and poverty, as mere diversions from the group's main targets of gay marriage and abortion rights.

Unfortunately, Perkins and his cronies will just ignore this incident as an unpleasantry, and move on...much like a Michael Moore bit. But if real journalists would actually follow the lead of Colbert (a freakin' comedian, for heaven's sakes!), do their homework, and have the balls to call these guys out when they make sweeping generalizations based on their skewed and self-serving perspectives, then maybe they wouldn't be able to ignore such "unpleasantries" any longer.

Hmm, that wasn't quite as satisfying as i'd hoped. Inside of Perkins' mind (where the hamster runs on the wheel), i'm sure he interpreted that as a publicity victory. Perkins in a shock collar, that would have been satisfying.

i wish someone would ask these bigots how they would feel if someone told them they can't love and marry their partners. how would it make them feel. and these people need to get over the fact that we are talking about underage children, etc but 2 adults who feel the same kind of love for each other as supposedly straight couples feel. i think perkins should have his brain circumsized...then maybe he could use his heart!

That guy is just ignorant

That guy is just ignorant

I still don't quite understand how our society was based on marriage. I'm not a big fan of marriage in general, being such the raconteur, man about town, playboy that I am, but I've yet to hear a solid reason why it would rip a hole in time and space placing our country in a parallel universe.

I don't lie down with men, I kneel in front of them. Does that count? I'm the grandson of a Protestant church leader. Two uncles are ministers, one cousin, a great grandfather, a great great grandfather and so on and so on. Love one another is the theme I subscribe to. Forgiving others, accepting others, even with faults, and trying to love them. It's hard, but as a Christian I have to. Forgive and love. Two of the hardest and easiest things to do. I'll wait until judgement day and take my sentence. God is the only Judge I'm worried about. I pray for understanding for those that want to judge me.

If they wanted to preserve the sanctity of marriage and the traditional family, why don't they ban drive-through weddings performed by Elvis?

Hey, Britney, as long as you're marrying a man, have fun! You can always divorce him tomorrow! Shopping is much more exciting than baysitting any day! But, you're straight--so it's all good.

It is remarkable that Colbert (and John Stewart as well) can get conservative-folk to come and speak with them on this "liberal" comic programs.

As for the AFA, their stands are dangerous to us. Thanks to Colbert, their stand-taking is also confirmed as laughable.

Oooops! Edit my previous post: Not AFA, but FRC. But they are true bedfellows.

I've said it before but for what it's worth we need to force these loonies into writing a ballot amendment that says "one man, one woman, one time - no divorce and no exceptions". Then let all of these wackos put their own so called family values on the line. Seems that if the "sanctity" of marriage is of such tremendous value they should be willing to bind themselves into the restricting bonds of a true permanent committment.

Thank goddess for Stephen Colbert.
I love that man!
He is a True Journalist in a comedian's guise.
Someone's got to tell it!

Thank you for posting this!
....must go get cable now....

He comes across as someone with a particular religious based viewpoint. That hardly makes him look like an idiot. He looks like an educated person with some very common misconceptions about reality. It's pretty darn widespread in the population at large.
