Gale Harold Rocks "Desperate Housewives," Will Ellen Confront John McCain?

Galeterijames400_2   A friend called me nearly an hour and a half into the two-hour Desperate Housewives season finale last night and screamed, "Where the *&% is Gale Harold?!?!"

Like me, he couldn't wait to see the former Queer As Folk star and one of the sexiest men alive make his big debut on Desperate Housewives.

Finally, Harold appeared in the last few seconds of the show, which had suddenly fast-forwarded five years into the future.

So much had changed: Gaby had become the mother of two chubby little girls and had really let herself go; Lynette's children had grown up to be juvenile delinquents; and Bree had morphed into a high-powered cookbook mogul with her gay son all suited up (and looking sharp) working for her.

And where was Susan five years later? We saw her walk into her house and into the arms of…Gale Harold!

Her hunky plumber hubby Mike was nowhere to be seen.

"Honey, I’m home. Did you miss me?" she purred.

"You know I did," Harold replied, planting a kiss on her lips.

Seeing Harold even just for a moment in the closing seconds of the show was 100 percent worth the wait—even if he was fully clothed and kissing a woman.

Overall, I have to rate the Desperate Housewives finale PHENOMENAL.

There were so many twists and turns, and even the gays—Lee and Bob—got in on the action with their commitment ceremony.    Watch it here:

So what did you think? Did the finale live up to your expectations, and can Harold make the transition from Liberty Avenue to Wisteria Lane?

Ellen_bday Will Ellen Confront John McCain?

Let the fireworks begin. Maybe.

John McCain is going to appear on The Ellen Show this Thursday, May 22, and there is one question on everyone's minds: Is Ellen DeGeneres going to broach the topic of gay marriage with the presidential hopeful?

Ellen tends to stay away from being overtly political on her show. She bowled with Hillary Clinton and busted a move with Barack Obama. But it is hard to imagine her not addressing the topic of gay marriage with McCain.

The world's leading lesbian announced that she and Portia de Rossi were becoming Mrs. and Mrs. DeGeneres-de Rossi right after gay marriage recently became legal in California, and she even asked Justin Timberlake to perform at her wedding when he was on the show the other day.

If Ellen does discuss gay marriage with McCain, it is hard to imagine her not getting emotional about it. Look how worked up she got over that whole dog adoption mess last year.

We could very well see a showdown the likes of Rosie O'Donnell vs. Tom Selleck. Remember their uncomfortable on-air spat over gun control?

But do we want to see Ellen get into it with McCain over gay marriage? Will you be disappointed if she doesn't bring it up, or is her daytime chat show the wrong forum for a debate on the issue?

Takei Takei to tie the knot!

First, Ellen proposed to Portia last week. Today, George Takei became the next gay Hollywoodling to announce he's getting married, to longtime partner Brad Altman.

"Our California dream is reality. Brad Altman and I can now marry. We are overjoyed!" said the gay "Heroes," "Howard Stern Show" and "Star Trek" on his Web site Friday.

Since the California Supreme Court lifted a ban on same-sex marriage Thursday, both DeGeneres and Takei have announced wedding plans.

"Brad and I have shared our lives together for over 21 years," Takei's post continued. "We've worked in partnership; he manages the business side of my career and I do the performing. We've traveled the world together from Europe to Asia to Australia. We've shared the good times as well as struggled through the bad. He helped me care for my ailing mother who lived with us for the last years of her life. He is my love and I can't imagine life without him. Now, we can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage. We embrace it all heartily."

The ruling was that much more significant to Takei, the actor went on to say, because of his history being treated like a second-class citizen. "During World War II, I grew up imprisoned behind the barbed wire fences of U.S. internment camps. Pearl Harbor had been bombed and Japanese Americans were rounded up and incarcerated simply because we happened to look like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor."

He continued, "With time, I know the opposition to same sex marriage, too, will be seen as an antique and discreditable part of our history. As U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy remarked on same sex marriage, 'Times can blind us to certain truths and later generations can see that laws once thought necessary and proper, in fact, serve only to oppress.'

"For now, Brad and I are enjoying the delicious dilemma of deciding where, when, and how we will be married. Marriage equality took a long time, but, like fine wine, its bouquet is simply exquisite."

Congratulations, George and Brad!

Gay director and creator of classic cult films like Hairspray, John Waters, once said show me someone who is devoted to their pets and I will show you someone who does deal with with people. The fact that Ellen will bawl on the air about a dog doesnt mean she will stick up for her brothers and sisters in the gay rights movement and confront McCain about gay marriage.

Just look at the dog incident you mention in the story. In that instance she breached the rules of the adoption of the dog by passing the dog off to the underage kid of her hairdresser (a rule that is designed to prevent abuse of dogs) -- why did she pass it off, because its presence upset her other pets -- and what did she do next, she used her show to bash the doggy adoption company and put the owners out of business.

Then again, she might be willing to stand up for gay rights because part of the lesson from that example is Ellen will in the end put her own interests before anyone else and she and Portia do want to have a commitment ceremony.

I thought Desperate Housewives was great last night. It will be great to see Gale Harold - a fine actor on a series again as a Hot regular. The last 10 seconds was worth the wait. I have not been a regular viewer this season but if he stays I will be again.

This was a great season of DH but that finale...kind of a yawn. With the exception of the fun flash forward in the last few minutes of the show (a twist done 1000 times better last season on LOST and not blown in the media a week before air), the bulk of the two hours was kind of flat. I'm not sure a 10 second appearance by Gale Harold rates a "phenomenal" but it was the only WOW twist in the episode. I know DH requires you to suspend disbelief but when Katherine said she went to a Romanian orphanage (!?!?) and just happened to find a look alike replacement for her dead daughter, I groaned. It would also be nice if gay DH creator Marc Cherry would tune in to fellow ABC stable mate BROTHERS & SISTERS to see how to [a] write compelling gay characters [b] marry two gay men with dignity. If Lee and Bob were featured on another series, one not created by a gay guy, GLADD would be storming the network and launching a boycott campaign.

as a queer womyn ellen has an obligation to stand up to john mccain and pressure him

DH finale was a great 2 hours of well-scripted television as opposed to most of the reality TV junk on these days. Dana Delany's story played out really well. As far as Gale Harold, I don't know anybody who thinks he is hot at all ... but good for him for landing a nice prime-time role. Hopefully, his character will be as good as Delaney's.

Mercy. If Bryan doesn't know anyone who thinks Gale Harold is hot, he needs more human contacts. I'm just saying.

Loved loved loved the finale to Desperate Housewives, including the gay wedding. The point was that Bob and Lee truly loved each other, and Tom's final speech about love and being with the one you know is worth sticking to, which applied to both the gay couple and Tom and Lynette, was very real and movingly done.

There are no words for how fabulous it is to have Gale Harold joining DHW. Relatively few folks saw him in Queer as Folk, which because it aired on pay cable has a much smaller audience. Audience figures while it was running were around a million or slightly over; by contrast, 16.8 million viewers watched the DHW finale. It's terrific and long overdue exposure for a very fine actor.

I fell asleep watching this in Los Angeles because of JET LAG. I was crying over it. BUT I watched it online, and honestly, I was disappointed. I predicted absolutely everything of this finale once it returned after the tornado episodes. The show is getting dull, and their flash-forward wasn't the best, considering LOST did the best, and that was in season 3.

I cannot wait to see gale. He is a real actor, he does mainly smaller but really good things, but it is about time he does something that will give him the recognition he deserves as a brilliant actor. I LOVED him on Liberty Ave, and though I think, no, scratch that, I KNOW the scenes and kisses will not be quite as hot with Teri Hatcher that they were with Randy Harrison, I will watch him and love him. And ya know, Gale cant escape the gay... there is a gay son character on the show, and there was the gay wedding lol. LOVE IT! Randy should make an appearance as Gale's characters Best friend or the cable guy or something, that would rock (but he is doing the broadway thing now so...)

Cant wait for the season premiere =)
