Laura Bush - make that Butch! - on Ellen

Laura_bush (Getty Image) Laura Bush, that ol' softie, showed up on Ellen today with her newly-married, suprisingly husky-voiced daughter Jenna, to chit-chat about the wedding and their new children's book.

Not only did Laura look like she'd rather be getting an enema from Hillary Clinton (Jenna actually had to tell her mom to scooch closer), she was clearly dying for a cigarette (if rumors that she is a chain smoker are true)...especially when Ellen asks if she could borrow the Bush family ranch for her wedding to Portia.

Check out the clip below from her appearance, and fast forward to 3:20 to see the iron maiden's frozen facade take over when Ellen presents Jenna with a personalized pair of boxers (just like a lesbian...), and then shift into high gear at 3:50 when discussing the ranch. Can you say no sense of humor? And check out Laura's impersonation of Mary Tyler Moore from "Ordinary People" at the end of the interview: Ellen - who hugs everybody - gets the hand-only from LB. Coooooold.

Laura seems pretty hardcore for a first lady, or a mom for that matter.  I suspect that her newly -earned moniker of "Momzilla" was just the latest in a long-line of "nicknames". Kudos to Jenna for filling the awkward silences (something's she's probably had a lot of practice doing) and here's to getting a first lady - or gentleman - who knows how to loosen up every once in a while.

Enjoy the clip, and come back next week for my "The Laura Bush Forced Smile Hall of Fame" slideshow -- which includes her classic pose with Ghana's John Agyekum Kufuoright -- here on Gay TV Blog...

What should we expect from the wife of the 4th antichrist? Send her to the guillotine along with Bush for war crimes against humanity and the 20 other grievances laid out on www.impeachbush.com

Wow...Laura Bush is even more of a tool than I thought. Talk about a deer in the headlights! The fact that she claims to be an "educator" is really scary. I'm not sure if she's just a complete dumb ass or a genuine ice princess. Either way, she does make the perfect wife for that lame brained hubby of hers. Imagine the deep, intellectual chats they must have at the ranch.

While I respect Ellen's desire to give people of divergent viewpoints a forum on her show, I have to say, having Laura Bush on at this stage of the game is an insult. It's even more offensive that it was little more than a soft peddling interview to hawk a kiddie book and brag about Jenna's wedding. While Laura was doing the Electric Slide with Jenna and the rest of their WASP cadre, the country her husband helped run into the ground continues to suffer.

So she wrote a children's book about reading. Here's a wacky idea, Laura, get your husband to make education as much a of a priority as waging illegal wars. Think of all the good things that could have been done here at home with the billions of dollars flushed down the toilet that is Iraq.

While I expect little from anyone in the Bush/Cheney club, it would be nice if people like Ellen stopped giving these bastards a forum to continue fiddling while Rome burns.

You may not like president Bush, but his wife has been an excellent first lady. She reminds me of my mom. She is matronly and loving, gentle, and a class act. She is a very private lady and does not look for the spotlight. Mrs. Bush has been a role model for mothers everywhere.

Laura did not look uncomfortable. That was a great interview. She even held up the boxers at the end and laughed through out the entire interview. I laughed a long with them all as all three of them seemed to enjoy themselves!

Whoever wrote this needs to get a real life.

I know most gay folks hate the Bushes but give me a break! If Laura Bush french kissed Ellen, you would still ooze with disdain. She happens to be a verly lovely woman whom probably doesn't share every opinion of your readers - oh my - but we don't like people with different views do we? Joseph (a gay Republican)

I don't blame the 1st lady for not likeing the show, I hate it myself.
That BITCH Ellen, can kiss my ass!

She's a lizard ! Look at her she don't even look human!

Laura appears to be another in a curious lineage of President's wives who were reminded to "smile for the camera" so often they frequently appear in photos to have a hyperthyroid condition.Nancy Reagan, for one, also smiled with such fierce vivacity one wondered if she might suffer corneal damage.God bless Our first Ladies of the Perpetual Smiles!

I thought Laura Bush was great on the Ellen show. I was happy to see her on the show as she is a very private lady. Just because many dont like George why take it out on his wife. I have always thought Laura is a classy lady with a class act. Get over it

So what, exactly, has Laura Bush done in seven years to merit your accolades? In what way is she "classy?" For whom and why is she a "role model?" How has she been an "excellent" First Lady? What will her legacy be? Yeah, she was a bundle of fun during the interview. If a pained smile and uncomfortable gaps of silence are your idea of a hoot. Jenna and Ellen looked like they were having a good time but, I'm sorry, the painted mannequin at the end of the couch was just sad.

I think that in this case you have got to give her credit for appearing. Yeah, her husband is a turd....but I am just wondering if I watched the same interview...she seemed comfortable and pleasant. Yes, it would be wonderful if we lived in a a world where the first lady was was a gay rights activist. In this instance, I think it says alot that she even appeared. We can get all hot and bothered about body language and our own perceptsion (which can often be tied to our own issues), but in a larger sense, it says alot that she was there and you can't expect the first lady to be your gay rights hero the first time she appears on Ellen. I think this might be a good way to focus on lightening up.

Wow Ron, Your comments about Laura Bush are almost as off as your understanding of politics and history. George Bush has put more money into education than any other president in history. Period! He has put twice as much money into education than Bill Clinton did. Only caveat was that children had to show that they were learning. Only problem is that the teachers unions aren't interested in learning but in furthering their own agenda. Why don't you read a newspaper or learn some history instead of watching Ellen.

Joseph you got it. The liberals preach acceptance and tolerance they just don't have to practice it. As for Ellen episode, it was funny as usual. but instead of trying to bridge gaps in opinions and beliefs like Laura Bush did by appearing, people have to attack her in a very low and distasteful way. Then they turn around and scream that its the conservatives that are keeping this country torn apart. If you want to see why this country is so divided take a look at some of the above comments.

I think Laura Bush is a good face for George. I do not know how she lives with her self. Her husband is such a horror in so many ways. If she does in fact have a soul, which I seriously doubt, one might say that it lives in a kind of agony that only a plastic smile can cover up. How would you like to be the wife of a husband who's gaffs lead to the deaths of over four thousand young men and women? She must feel like shit all the time... if she has a soul. If not then she is the psychopath she was intended to be.

I think that's always interesting the way the conservatives blame everyone else for Bush's sad administration. Bush has put more money into education than any other President, but the teachers and the children are to blame if the schools are underfunded. The liberals want a strong economy with equal rights and opportunities for all our citizens. The conservatives call them socialists and say they're trying to destroy our country - meanwhile putting our economy in the toilet and committing not only war crimes but goverment-funded atrocities all over the world. But liberals haven't done there research, the conservatives are the smarter bunch. Isn't that how the conversation always ends? I feel sorry for the straight women I know who actually have to weed through these nuts find a nice guy -- at least I don't have that issue with the guys I'm dating. Anyway, I applaud Ellen because I think she really saw the humor in having the Bush family on her show. It was deeply funny.

Gay conservatives make me feel so moist inside. I love it when they tell me how bad and slutty I am while they perform sodomy on me. Spank me real hard please. mmm.

All of the "gay republican" bantering is as hilarious as it is disturbing. It just goes to show that some will do anything to feel as though they belong. Regardless of a gay man's attempts to fit in with the conservatives, they'll always be forced under the table to gather scraps like the animals they're viewed to be. But in truth, that is how they see themselves...there must be a masochistically satisfying element to it. To forsake one's self to taste a moment of acceptance, as false as it may be...what a waste of a life.

Laura Bush is most definitely a tool. In fact, I question whether or not she's even human. Talk about astonishing insincerity! I wonder if anyone bent her over and checked her for a cattle prod.

Whoever wrote this article is plain stupid! Laura was perfectly warm and friendly and I think it was a fun interview, especially for a First Lady. What did you expect her to do, give Ellen a kiss ?? I mean c'mon, the Bushes are clearly not into the gay lifestyle nor do they have to be. Duh ! We are entitled to our own feelings and opinion. They have always to me to be a warm family and i love em !

What a lovely first family.

Are you all on crack? I can not believe i am reading posts from people sticking up for this guy... Are you for real? He clearly is a idiot. As for His wife, this artical might have taken it a little far, she could be just a tad shy or even have stage fright. Being shy, many, many times, is mistaken for stuck up. Clearly she is not a "mom" ster, if she managed to raise such a great women. Yes, the Bush girls did have their moments, but what person has not done stupid things growing up. She has grown into a very beautiful and seemingly smart person. I do wonder if the reason she did not say is because she will vote Obama and that will piss off daddy, and or make his party look bad that the daughter of the R president vote dem. Or will she vote McCain and played it safe by not saying, knowing that it might make her less apealing to the public. I am interested in what the future brings her way. Both times she appeard on Ellen she seemed right at place, and i truely feel that she would not have a problem with a lesbian wedding at her ranch. I also wonder if this is just a way of the Bush admin, of getting bushes approvel raiting up, focusing on the gays and women.

Laura has a lot of class for bearing up so well with the bad turns that this administration suffered. Has anyone stopped to think that Laura Bush may be very much in love with her husband? At least she is doing what she can to maintain her presence poise and dignity. She is a very beautiful woman and her husband just happens to preside over a fucked up nation! What would you do were your queers - who need so much to be different - now for tax write off puposes, want to marry? That alone would cause me to go nuts!
I am happy that George and Laura are at least hetero and using the same powers of observation that some of the posters here do the knock Laura Bush, I can tell that she is a stunning woman and very passionate in a one on one situation. Were she to dump W I'd dump my gay bf and pursue her in a minute! Laura brings the man in me OUT - the hetero that is. And this demographic is so fucked up why even bother to validate queers by showing up. Laura did ugly Ellen a favor and I have never liked this ugly, unfunny, unpretty Ellen anyway.
