Daytime Hotties Present Ellen's Emmy, Info on the New "Match Game" Revival
Even though this was her fourth consecutive win, Ellen DeGeneres was beaming with joy when she heard presenters Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann—who, as all good gays should know, play As the World Turns' Luke and Noah—announce that she had snagged the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host on Friday night.
After planting a kiss on her soon-to-be-wife Portia de Rossi, Ellen bounded on stage to accept the honor, and it seemed appropriate that Van and Jake, who play the soap world's only gay couple—okay, technically, Luke and Noah are on a break, but they'll get back together the romantic in me believes—presented it to her.
Talk about gay visibility. Look how far we've come.
And I have to mention how handsome Van and Jake looked in their suits and ties. These guys dress up well. I used to be hot for just Van, but Jake's catching up. He's starting to look like Dylan McDermott more and more each day. (Btw, where is Dylan these days?)
Ellen beat out Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa from Live with Regis and Kelly and the ladies from The View, including Rosie O'Donnell (yes, she was part of the nominees list, and rightfully so), for the award, and she was thankful.
"What a year," Ellen mused during her acceptance speech. "We all know this has been a crazy year… we've done a lot of crying and a lot of laughing [on our show]."
The Iggy dog drama behind her, Ellen seems to be doing a lot more laughing than crying these days now that she and Portia can legally wed in their home state of California.
Prior to the Daytime Emmys broadcast, Ellen and Portia walked the red carpet, Portia sporting a gorgeous ring full of pink diamonds, fielding questions about their upcoming nuptials. While Ellen confirmed to People that they set a wedding date, she wouldn't share specifics, simply teasing that "incredible people" are slated to perform at the ceremony and promising that she will air portions of the wedding on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Surely, Justin Timberlake will be performing on Ellen and Portia's big day. Ellen actually asked him to sing at her wedding when he appeared on her show recently, and he was into it.
Meanwhile, Ellen can't wait to be married. "I feel like it is long overdue," she tells People, "and I think some day people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous like we all don't have the same rights." Check out daytime's hottest gay TV couple present the Emmy to the world's most famous lesbian below, but after that -- there's new info on a new Match Game!
Silverman, Thompson Join "Match Game" Revival!
According to TV Guide, gloriously foul-mouthed comedian Sarah Silverman, super funny gay Kids in the Hall alum Scott Thompson and Reno 911's sassy Niecy Nash have all signed up to be panelists on the re-make of the classic game show Match Game.
Rashida Jones from The Office (you all know she's the daughter of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton, right?) and Saturday Night Live veteran Norm MacDonald will also be joining them, with former MadTV cast member Andrew Daly hosting the show.
Let me digress for one second. I think these celebs are a great fit for the new Match Game, but if you ask me, this would be the perfect project for ANT. No gay comic is as fast on their feet as he is, and the man is simply on fire right now. When he visited the Howard Stern Show last month, he talked about the great experience he had taking one of Rosie O'Donnell's family cruises. His description of having a threesome with a 70-year-old gay couple (one of whom had to take out his fasle teeth) during the cruise was so hilarious, even Howard brings the story up regularly on the show. Call ANT now, producers!
Now back to the new Match Game. I can't wait to see if the latest version lives up to the version that ran during the 1970s.
I grew up watching re-runs of the bawdy Gene Rayburn-hosted incarnation from the '70s, and I probably missed ninety percent of the double entendres that flew out of the wicked mouths of panelists like Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly. But I loved the show anyway and later figured out what I missed when the re-runs started airing on GSN, and I saw them as an adult.
For those of you haven't had the pleasure of seeing it, the show had contestants trying to fill in words missing from phrases uttered by Rayburn. The celebrity panelists, who seemed liquored up (and probably were), helped them fill in the blanks.
The newest incarnation of Match Game is being shot for TBS and aimed at a late-night crowd. Let's hope the pilot gets picked up, and let's hope it is just as risqué as the show that ran during the 1970s because if it is, it is going to be hilarious.
I'm so excited about the new Match Game, I could just...BLANK. But if ANT doesn't get on this show, I will just BLANK. Other great celebs for the show would include BLANK Feel free to fill in those blanks, but in the meantime, check out some of the best Brett Somers/Charles Nelson Reilly Match Game bits below.

Loved the Match Game clips! I was too young to watch the show when it aired, but I love watching it on Game Show Network.
I'm psyched for it to come back, in fact, I'm excited for a whole resurgance of all game shows. I think Sarah and Norm will be great, but have to agree with the writer about Ant. He is so much more funny than Scott Thompson, and no offense, but Ant is more relevant. I can see how Scott's queen-y persona could be a good balance for the rest of the panel, but do we need that in 2008? Why not bring it to a new level with a smart, funny current gay guy?
Regardless, I'm happy the show is coming back!

Oh, I hope ANT gets on the show, and I hope they use the old Match Game theme song, and I hope Sarah Silverman and the rest of the guys drink as much on set as Brett Somers, Richard Dawson, CNL and Fannie Flagg did. I even hope they use the same phallic microphone.

I grew up on Match Game with Charles Nelson Reilly, Brett Sommers, Richard Dawson. What a riot. They got away woth so much on TV back then (thank God!). The NEW Match Game with Scott Thompson should be great, too.
