Project Runway: Does Green Make You Horny?
Well THAT was a let-down! The rumored fling between Daniel and Wesley consisted, maybe, of one night...with nothing caught on camera other than Wesley's roomie Keith making his bed for him the next morning. And whatever started up that night is now over: the judges sent Little Lord Wesley packing (update: Wesley has confirmed that the two of them are still together...so they must have picked up where their time together on PR left off.)
But my disappointment in that was offset by Tim Gunn actually using the phrase, "Hot Mess"!! I love it. And after feeling that Tim was a bit M.I.A. last season, I really feel he's back, and edgier this year. He's treating this group like the amateurs they are, reprimanding them for their unfinished work and yelling for their attention. The Silver Fox is BACK - and my interest in playing Shot Gun (a shot for every time Gunn says "M.I.W") is renewed.
And thank god...because listening to Suede talk about himself in the third person without a drink in my hand is ranking up there as one of the worst parts of my summer already. Seriously -- does he do that in real life? There is no way that someone hasn't told him to shut the f@#$% up. Yes, some of the other designers were starting to feel comfortable to make fun of him for it, but he's clearly unfazed by that. Suede needs that crap knocked out of him for good...I'm counting on Stella.
Ah, Stella. How entertaining is she? See, she's the real deal, and that's what sets her apart from Suede and Blayne. I highly doubt she's a better designer, though her dress was hot, but Suede's WAS adorable, but that personality of hers is totally genuine, not some manufactured persona that is hoping against all hope to inspire the next catch phrase. And while the mini-catfight between Stella and Blayne was funny, she was just walking through that exchange. I fear for the person who really pisses her off.
As for the challenge, I was feeling it was a bit uninspired at first. I mean, it's great they used green/organic fabrics, but if there is something more challenging about using green fabrics vs. traditional, that didn't really come through. I guess that's why the added on the extra drama of having the models shop for the fabric instead of the designers. Not knowing who was who or caring who was who, the footage of the shopping expedition grew weary.
But the downside of having a model do your shopping did become apparent once they got back to the studio. How is it that three of the models picked that same brown shiny fabric? You'd think these girls might have a more refined sense of instinct and eye for style, but you'd be wrong. Learn something new everyday.
And finally, how ridiculously adorable is Natalie Portman? Oh my god, you just want to pick her up and put her in your pocket she's so cute. I loved that she threw in that she "personally isn't a fan of the asymmetrical thing"...you usually don't get such honest opinions from the guest judges. As for her telling Suede she'd wear his dress...too bad he won. Now it's going to be sold on Bluefly, and presumably too mass for Natalie to wear. But who knows? She seems like a girl of her word.
So based on what we've seen so far, who do you predict will be the breakout star? And I don't necessarily mean winner; Austin Scarlett lost, so did Laura Bennett and Nick Verreos, and we still see their faces all over the place...so basically, who do you think will have a blog on Bravo.com when the season is over?
