Who Is Ann Coulter Calling "Faggy" Now?, John Barrowman Asks: What Made Me Gay?

Anne_coulter_2 Ann Coulter sure does have a thing for the f-word and its variations.

Just last spring, the conservative pundit, famed for her insensitive remarks and proclivity for anti-gay slurs, called then presidential hopeful John Edwards a "faggot" during a speech she gave to the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Then just last week, Coulter chose to sling yet another epithet Edwards' way, calling him "the very definition of faggy" during an interview on Newsradio 850 KOA's The Jon Caldara Show.

Caldara and Coulter were discussing the rumors about Edwards being involved in an extra-marital affair when Coulter said, "I just think John Edwards is an incredibly creepy individual and the very definition of faggy…"

Not surprisingly, GLAAD had something to say about Coulter's word choice, issuing a statement from GLAAD president Neil G. Giuliano that reads: "Once again, Ann Coulter has made a cynical and desperate bid for attention by using a vulgar, dehumanizing anti-gay slur. More and more, fair minded Americans believe that there's no place for this kind of bigotry, and Coulter's shrinking media platform only confirms how out of step she is with the rest of this country."

What you think of Coulter's latest F-word controversy? Are you offended by her use of the term faggy to describe Edwards, or do you think this is much ado about nothing?

Barrowman_2 John Barrowman Asks: What Made Me Gay?

You've got to give actor John Barrowman credit. Not every man would agree to submit to a penile plethysmograph… on film. But Barrowman did so for an episode of the three-part BBC1 documentary series The Making of Me.

Each installment focuses on a celebrity trying to find the source of a defining trait, and the first episode, which just aired in Britain (and will, hopefully, air in the U.S. on BBC America), has the gorgeous Torchwood/Doctor Who star trying to figure out what made him gay. Was it nature, nurture or a combination of both?

Back to the penile plethysmograph: For those of you who haven't have one, it is a test that reveals the amount of blood flow to one's willy. After Barrowman's was hooked up to a lie detector of sorts, he was shown straight and gay porn and monitored to see what turned him on.

Not surprisingly, gay porn did it for Barrowman.

Researchers also compared Barrowman's DNA to that of his straight brother's, tested Barrowman's gaydar and interviewed people who knew him growing up.

Barrowman_1 In the end, the evidence points toward Barrowman's sexual orientation being decided in the womb.

Of course, we all have our theories of what made us gay. What do you think made you gay, and beyond that, do you think it is important to find out why we are gay, and do you give a celebrity like Barrowman credit for subjecting himself to scrutiny?

Oh -- you can check out a clip from John's documentary below, and in case you missed it, John was recently named an official "Full Package" by Gay.com -- check it out by clicking here.

Imagine my horror when I come to this blog tonight as I do every night, and see THAT COULTER TOAD on my screen. Yuck. Thank God I wasn't eating. Love John Barrowman however.

We all know Ann Coulter has a bevy of Republikkkan gay men socializing with her; there have been photographs. It is the psychology of individuals like those we should most be worried about, not so much the repellent, whorish, perfor-mace [sic[ artist, Ann Coulter, imo.

As much as I would like to blast Ms. Coulter, I have to allow for the fact that we have free speech in the USA. Having said that, I can't excuse her lack of brain power to use any type of slur against any one minority or culture. Unfortunately, Ms. Coulter gains attention and press by showing her true colors. This allows all gay people to put a face on the slurs that get thrown at us.

Get a life. Ann never called John Edwards a faggot, she made a joke obout political correctness. Its ineteresting that the quotes are taken out of context. Every gay person I've told the entire quote to has laughed.

We need to get away from the I am offended therefore I am attitude and just live our lives.

Ann Coulter is like a drag queen, those people who read her work generally get a good laugh out of it, those who don't villify her based on quotes taken out of context and rumors.

"Science" doesn't know enough about much that they declare to know "a lot" about! I'm not saying science doesn't have a place to make determinations; what I AM saying is that science hasn't asked the right questions in order to get the right answers. Too, there's a categorical difference between scientific "fact" and philosophical "truth." And, most of the time, people confuse the two to be one concept or idea. Facts are things we accept as having been "proven" by some measure - which the measure can be debated about. Truth is something we absolutely MUST believe, for it can NEVER be proven on this Earth; it's belief, faith, and completely intangible. So, the best thing we've got going in terms of an objective answer for something (supposedly) is science, but if science doesn't ask the right questions science will purport an erroneous "fact" as something leading to the "truth." Er go, in order to understand something such as when a person "becomes" gay, or was it nature vs. nurture, etc., we need to embody BOTH science AND philosophy. The reason science hasn't been able to find the "gay gene" is because there simply isn't one; and those that keep hoping for one will be forever wanting. I have made the choice to live as a heterosexual, although my feelings often lead me to believe I am otherwise. But feelings does not a person make! Actions are what determine a person's quality... not feelings. I am not denying the legitimacy for feelings, I'm just denying the FACT and the TRUTH that not all feelings are worthy of executing through to action; i.e., the urge to do drugs, the urge to hit someone when they make me mad, the urge to (fill in the blank). Urges are something we ALL face on a daily basis... not all of them good. In fact, I'd dare say most of them are probably bad. I feel all people are entitled to walk the road they wish to walk; but the rest of the world should afford me the right to do the same. For in the end, regardless of what we have felt in terms of "urges", we must ALL give an account of how we handled our lives and the choices we've made. I "BELIEVE" that my choice to live as a heterosexual will prove most prudent, until then I must endure listening to pseudo-science being masked as "real" science! I think "being (or becoming)" gay is a product of both nature and nurture - hence why no one can find the gay gene. I think certain genes may act in conjunction with one another to cause someone to have more of a proclivity to acting out in a homosexual fashion than someone else. My philosophical bent would call this "sin." While most will cringe over this, maybe that cringing is due to the overall understanding that sin is real... and shameful. Which leads me to this: sin (one's actions) is a choice! Wow, does that make me "pro-choice?"

Um, how much vitreol and hate has been JUST typed here towards Ann Coulter?!? You all LOVE to condemn those that have condemned you, but you fail to see the hypocrisy in your own hating of someone that you (obviously) disagree with. To be tolerant is not to be gay; to be tolerant is to be, well, TOLERANT! Which means to allow ANY and ALL to freely express themselves. Otherwise you are NO different than the priest or pastor who preaches against homosexuality all the while having sex with boys and/or men! Hypocrisy isn't just for the church-folk anymore! (Actually, hypocrisy never was limited to church-folk!!!)

Should one wish to exhibit tolerance they must first start with their own heart attitude(s) with regard to people with which they disagree! Otherwise, the whole "tolerance" montra sort of gets lost in all the "Kill Ann Coulter" shouts (and the like)! Hypocrites!!!

This is to "Um". While I would never tell you how to live your life, I find your "choice" to live as a "heterosexual" very strange, considering you are typing these comments on GAY.com....you see the disconnect here. As for my life being sinful...I find it awfully arrogant and egotistical of you to pigeonhole my feelings, or rather how I feel, into something no more than wanton lust, and therefore, somehow shameful. My husband of nearly 17 years and I have no shame about our true feelings, indeed to deny feelings is to not be honest about who you are as a person, certainly something the creator of the universe would look upon as "sinful"...and when they do in fact prove that a "gay gene...or genes" exist, I'm wondering where that will leave you...alone I'm afraid, and that's just sad.

All I can say about Ann is that we should ignore her. If we continue to flair up like we do and hurl insults back at her, well it's keeping her, in some way or another, relevant. I think she would stay up all night worrying, or maybe even just disappear in a cloud of green smoke, if GLAAD said nothing about one of her remarks. I could be completely wrong, of course, but it is my opinion that free speech is important and it stretches even to those who say things we don't all like, or agree with. It is all about how we deal with the offense that matters.

Now then, to those who cringe over the concept of "sin." God created all evil things, for as we believe in the western theistic way, God created everything. Therefore anything we do is what God created, and he is perfect and cannot make a mistake. Also, we were all supposed to be put here for a reason, er go no one does anything that God didn't already intend for him to do. This means that "evil" cannot exist. Prime example: There would be no salvation were it not for Judas, so to say he is in Hell for doing what he did is to say that God's plan all along was to create him, use him, then cast him into the fiery pits. The same goes for anyone, and everyone, no matter how "sinful" you believe you, or they, are. So no one is evil, no one is sinful, and no one needs to worry about denying their urges to make it to heaven.

I think it is more important to note which party Ann Cooter is a mouthpiece for since she's merely a shill/whore for the Right. Those who consider voting for the Right, even those who are "moderate", should pay closer attention to the anti-gay, anti-female, anti-other nature of their loud speakers. As for this particular loudspeaker, isn't it time someone pulls her plug?

We are SO freakin' easy! All that it takes to get ink is for Ann Coulter to say something negative or Kathy Griffin to say something positive. Who the hell cares what either of them says? Go make a life for yourself and stop waiting for an endorsement from some straight woman.

Why do you even mention her name?

why do you even bother to print what this cunt has to say, What the fuck do you think we feel about it?

I don't care, and neither should anyone else.

Hahaha! She (Coulter) does look like a drag queen.
And John B, you go boy. I's a fan!

you're reporting on ann coulter again why?

Frankly, I'm just offended by Ann Coulter's use of perfectly good Oxygen. :-)

We should take a Marxist approach with the Ann Coulters of the world. Pretend they do not exist. Do not give them publicity nor attention. Eventually, they will go away or we'll have to just gas them when know one else is looking.

Ann is desperate, she represents a dying breed of ignorance. Let her go in Peace.

Isn't it ironic? Someone can be BORN gay or lesbian. But they have to CHOOSE to be an obnoxious self serving "pundit". (I would have used another word.. but I have too much respect for ...female dogs!)

thank god we have the freedom to respond to people like ms coulter.

and thank god for people like mr barrowman for being an open minded enough person to atleast let science try to answer humanities questions.

3 CHEERS for him.

Frankly I dont care if she calls John Edwards those names. I sometimes agree with her. He's a total idiot and not much of a man. Almost feminine. Is that not what a faggy fag is.. minus the idiot part? Ok maybe minus the not much of a man part too. No offense to my fem boys that I do so love. Perhaps I grew up learning the wrong terminology and definitions of gay phrases or words. Or maybe the mispelling villian in me is blocking my ability to learn?

You guys all need to get a grip. Why is it alright for a Homo like myself to call someone a fag but a Heterosexual can't use the same word? What ever happened to free speech. You don't have to like her. And Edwards is a fag. I think it's funny that you comment on her use of the word "fag". but say nothing about his latest scandal and his hypocrisy which is the bigger story. No, alas, it's a democrat that's in trouble so ignore it and attack the republicans for calling him out on it.

That stupid cunt has now used that word or a variation of it about as oten as she has worn the same 1980s black cocktail dress. Both are a sad attempt by the ugly girl in school that even the other ugly kids wouldn't play with to get attention. It is just a matter of time before the skank winds up living on the streets throwing bottles of her own urine at people. I can't wait for that day.

And just does that poor facsimile of a human being otherwise known and Ann ( Horse Face) Coulter. How sad that this no count republican bag of cheap fetilizer is sucking up our oxygen. What a true waste of human flesh she really is. Rarely do we run across the slime trail of such an outright hate monger as this poor excuse for a journalist let alone a human being. Ms. Coulter would have to struggle to attain the level of being mere pond scum. The bad thing is that sources such as Gay.Com feed into her blatant hatred by printing anything about her.If you ignore crap like her, they tend to simply burn themselves out when nobody will listen any longer.

Geez... GLAAD has nothing better to do? If the word "faggot" is aimed at a gay person, then I can understand GLAAD's involvement. Isn't the job of defending Edward his or the Democratic party's? People called Ted Haggard & Larry Craig, et al... faggots all the time. I didn't see GLADD moved their fat asses for those two. The most troublesome thing I continue to see is that gay organizations continue to align themselves with the Democrats. Are they crazy? This party (together with the Republicans) makes it their mission to multiply the Catholic foot soldiers by leaps and bounds by making it easier for the illegals to come here. They by themselves also make it their mission to protect the Mohammedans by making it difficult for the Bush government to take out as many Mohammedans world wide as that government possibly can. What is the ulterior motives of the Democrats by harboring the foot soldiers of the 2 most evil cults in the world? Are they looking for those that will finish off the faggots once they no longer need us? I have to admire them for their ingenious plan. If the Mohammedans don't finish hanging us to dead, then they'll use the Catholics to pass laws to make us second class citizens while the Democrats sitting there paying us lip service and reap all the benefits. Gay people have to remember who their enemies are. It's the Catholics and the Mohammedans. Not Democrats or Republicans. They must stay neutral in our country political war. They must focus on preventing these 2 dangerous religious cults from acquiring more foot soldiers and not taking side with either Democrats or Republicans.

I wish people would stop giving that crazy cunt Anne Coulter print she sells her books off the back of being a right wing psycho, she only gets noticed by fair minded people because the media treat controversial veiwpoints as interesting. The only difference between her and say...David Icke is that people give her any credit whatsoever, watch Nora Burns/the Nellie Olsens parody of her on youtube it's priceless!

Why some people have this unnatural obsession with Ann Coulter I will never understand. The woman is more of an entertainer than anything else, and if she is stirring up reactions of any sort, she is doing her job.

I also agree completely with the poster who talked about Coulter constantly being quoted out of context, because she is. I don't agree with all of her political views, but I've taken the time to actually read some of her work, and I was rather entertained. I also agreed with many of her points and observations. However, if you go up in arms every time she drops the F-bomb, it's difficult to appreciate the fine satiric edge that is usually making fun of silly people much more than it is attacking the LGBT community or anyone else.

I just feel sorry for her...something horrible must have happened to her in her childhood to make her such an insufferable cunt...i don't think even the Catholic Church screws people up as bad as she obviously has been...she's going to die all alone one day, and that makes me smile

Ann Coulter cracks me up, i love her sense of humor, like any of us have never said that to an ex in a fight, it's just a word, and john edwards is well, kinda faggy, i cam say that because i am too lol

This woman is a closet fag hag, right? She is obsessed with gay men, obviously, and I would imagine that is partially because she is quite aware she needs multiple tips on both hair and makeup. She loooks like some elongated, beady eyed creature from a Guillermo Del Torres movie. Perhaps there is a role for her in HellboyIII?

Holy shait. Annie's godda Adam's apple.

(Sounds like she's a grape short of a Shar-d'oh-nay. Poor thang.)

Ann Coulter once a cunt always a cunt.

It usually takes a lot to get me angry, but if ever there was a time to be angry it is now. That creature called Ann Coulter is shallow and pathetic. She is the antithesis of decency and her hate mongering can be likened to an infectious disease. The only cure I see to fight this type of hate/ignorance is the continued push for equality, acceptance, and tolerance. Only when there is a lack of an audience for this "woman" and her brand of vile rhetoric will she and others like her finally vanish.

Gotta love that picture of Ann Coulter. Don't her eyes look like they're about to pop out at you?

um... yeah my imaginary friend can kick your imaginary friend's ass. In my arbitrary theistic philosophy, it's sinful not to fuck in the ass... so if you don't do it in the poop shoot, you'll go to hell. Which would be something like having to go down on jessy helms (how is there btw).

You know it would be a possible issue in the future if they isolate a "gay gene". Meaning it could be switched off during a pregnancy so a person would be born straight. If parents made that choice for their children, we'd all be gone in a century. As for Coulter; she needs to be a good little republican house wife that stays at home and raises the children. Be a good little wife that's seen and not heard. And keep her acid tongue to the to her church's gossip group.

Is there a way to publicly tar and feather Ann Coulter?

I don't agree that what Ann said was the most appropriate thing for her to say in a public forum. And of course, I'm a gay, democrat some might say liberal living in Southern CA. And it kinda just says something about her when she chooses that word choice to describe someone or something. It would be more appropriate to be more like "the gays" when we say she's too thin, has a huge nose and fragile looking hair. (insert sarcasm). The only thing is that John Edwards is kinda faggy. I mean, he's cute, his hair is always perfect and he's been in a constant struggle for something he can't have for the past however many years. I'm not sure how much more of a definition of fag does one can get?

Dang! It's a person. And all these years I thought someone had dressed up a horse in a cocktail dress.

Ms. Coulter needs a very strong laxative.

>Is there a way to publicly tar and feather Ann Coulter?

We already know she can dodge pies with the best meth addicted anorexics. Maybe medieval burning tar and pitch catapults should be called in. That era's technology certainly is befitting of her politics....

American Pop Culture promotes negative bias on all levels. That unfortunately is freedom at its' worst. They can't use racial slurs, so use sly comments that upset the GLBT community. Her crap about Edwards was negative but really not that offensive to me. She pushes the envelope and gets publicity. We can still counterpoint her nonsense. I don't see a point to do so. She should be ignored, like the sound of a dog barking in the neighborhood.

I think "Anorexic Annie" is in need of some new batteries for her personal portable vibrator.

I LOVE when Ms. Coulter makes these remarks because in the end she looks much more foolish than whomever she is attempting to insult. Give her enough rope and she'll eventually hang herself. If you read "Godless" be sure to read Susan Estrich's "Soulless" which basically calls out for what she is - a rhetoric-spewing hate monger. Wind her up and let her go.

ERIC: That's not science what they were doing. It's pseudo-science. First, only one subject was studied, least of all, an actor. Yes, he represents all gay people alright, or all "humanities" as you say. Second, it's perverted. They had to put some electronic monitoring device around his wiener? Sounds like a porn, or something coming out of the Inquisitions, or both.

And since we're discussing Ann Coulter as well, why not stick that device around her wiener?

Not long ago, I polled a group of my straight buddies about Ann Coulter: They think she's a drag queen.

'nuff said 'bout that.

Who the $#@% cares what makes us gay?

We are what we is, and that's that.

(And I thank God every day John Barrowman plays for our team! LOL!)

ummm...she's got a point

I am not ever going to be tolerant of hate-spewing people like Anne Coulter. I support free speech but in my mind hate speech is very dangerous. Adolf Hitler is living proof of the violence and hate that happens as a result of such vitriol. I believe that Adolf Hitler would be wildly applauding Anne Coulter's anti-gay comments.

Her mean-spirited diatribes towards gays and lesbians, whether it be a poke at political incorrectness or whatever, only incites hate amongst fringe elements in the wingnut right wing of the country. It especially empowers homophobic teenagers in schools, seeing a very popular figure in the right wing get laughter and applause after calling John Edwards a fag.

How many young gay kids are suffering teasing, humiliation, and violence at the hands of bullies who laugh at Anne Coulter's jokes and feel it gives them license to go after gay kids in their schools?

Why do you tolerate that, Um? Hate needs to be eradicated, not tolerated.

Honestly, who would defend Ann Coulter. She is not a Christian or she would definitely be kinder, more loving and more tolerant; the whole cast the first stone thing etc...

Ann Coulter's mere existence offends me. Sooner of later she will spit out something actionable, and I hope her victim gets every penny she has.
