Biden gets the nod!

In what was the most desperate act in a seemingly never-ending series of desperate acts, Senator Barack Obama selected Senator Joe Biden of Delaware as his running mate early Saturday morning. The word from high came in the form of text message and ended several days of foreplay between Obama, the media and his followers.
The media shot their load early when they broke the story that the secret service had been dispatched to Biden’s home late Friday night. The AP confirmed shortly afterwards that Joe was in fact the man.
This was always going to be a no-win choice for Obama. He needed to add foreign relations experience to the ticket and by adding that experience, he would further underscored his deficiency. But by selecting one of the most old fart-ish of Washington’s Old Fart Club, he’s lost all credibility as an agent of change. Of course no pick (with the exception of Senator Hillary Clinton) is likely to change anyone’s mind when they venture into the voting booth.
In what can only be described as arrogance or stupidity, news broke early Friday that not only was Clinton (remember her…the one with actual experience) no longer in consideration for the spot, but she hadn’t even been officially vetted by the Obama campaign. No one really expected him to ask her, but it was surprising that he didn’t even try to fake it. A symbolic olive branch could have gone a long way in satisfying the body of staunch Clinton supporters still wary to throw their support Obama’s way. In a more overt snub, the text was delivered at 3am in an apparent attempt to mock Senator Clinton’s famous “who do you want to answer the phone at 3am” ad from the preliminaries.
The door is now open for Senator McCain to step outside the beltway and select a young and energetic running mate that could be truly buzz-worthy…like Sarah Palin of Alaska, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana or former eBay CEO, Meg Whitman.
The only good news is that with Obama’s inability to keep a conviction for any duration, he’ll likely change his mind and name a different running mate within days.
So what're your thoughts? Was Biden the right choice? (Who should be the Republican nominee? Vote here).
Despite the Dems and the allied main stream media’s desperation to see Romney as McCain’s Veep, Mitt is clearly out, with (1) Obama doubling down on the class warfare theme (McCain’s 7 houses) and (2) McCain doubling down with ads showing the hypocrisy of Biden attacking Obama in the primaries — Romney did way more than that contra McCain.
This leaves only Govs Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty. Pro-abortion Ridge and Dem-Lieberman were never real considerations, despite relentless media goading. Pawlenty’s lackluster TV performances, coupled with Palin pizzazz, the primacy of oil drilling and the ticked off women/Hillary voters, does now portend a McCain/Palin checkmate on the Dems. This is so albeit the Dems and liberal media dare not mention Palin’s name, that is, everyone but…..
And if there’s any question as to Palin being uniquely positioned and able to more than nullify Biden in debate, see the excellent discussion at palinforvp.blogspot.com
Team McCain, well done!!!

So what's with the sour-on-Obama tone here? The writer seems to be still sweet on Clinton and intent on offering not a word of critique for McCain. Are we to think that gay people should support a candidate who's in the pocket of big oil companies, who's said that we should stay in Iraq another 100 years? And does anybody actually have the notion that Senator McCain has empathy for or interest in the issues facing gay and lesbian people in America? Planet Out, what are you doing posting this
Log Cabin Republican stuff? Where's the balance?

I voted for Hillary, but I am getting so sick of the Hillary crybabies. She lost, get over it. Do you think Obama is dumb enough to put her on his ticket so that she and her supporters can overshadow him and make her the defacto President? Please, it is his campaign now, not her's.
And now all of the Hillary supporters say they will vote for McLame... Well I guess you were all closet Repubs all along. Why on earth would a Queer ever vote Repub??? What are we now, a bunch of self-loathing queens??? I respect the democratic process, Obama won fair and square and I will vote for him now. As all of you should as well.
We know what McSame will do. Even as the Iraqi's are planning the U.S. withdrawl from their country, McBush is revving up the war chant and still beating the drums. We should never have been in Iraq and we need to get out. But a vote for McCorpse puts us right back where we don't belong.

A simple NOPE!

It shows you that Obama knows where his weakest points are and is dealing with them. Yeah I voted for Clinton but he won. We need to stick by our party and definitly get the republicans out of office (I for one am tired of losing our constitutional rights). Between the crashing economy and Iraq they need to not be voted in again for a long time! Yeah Biden is a career pol but he does know Washington and is considered one of the most liberal in Congress, maybe with them in the office we will get our rights as we truly deserve and want!!!

I am in no way a republican, but I wholeheartedly agree with the author of this column. The 3 am text message? Come on Obama is a sore winner, and an african american, and a woman on the same ticket would have been unstoppable. Choosing Biden, was a desperate act to legitimize the ticket. If the repubpicans stay in the White House Obama will be to blame....I just keep watching him fuck up.

yeah, that was just plain tacky to do the 3am text message.
I have been saying all along that I think the Democrats have been their own worst enemy and I continue to think we've lost this election by being totally stupid...AGAIN!!!!
I mean if Obama is going to run as the "change" candidate, he needs to show he's not a typical politician, but unfortunately, he keeps showing he's just as deceitful, will say anything to get elected and will do resort to cheap tactics (3am text message) to make a point.
Will the Dems ever get a great candidate for President?

Well – I had to do it – I made a comment on the internet (Newsvine) in results of my (dis)agreeing with Obama’s choice for his Vice-Presidential running mate: Sen. Joe Biden, a veteran lawmaker from Delaware. Beings we all have a voice and a choice, as this is America; I posted :
I would have highly preferred Hilary with her 8 years in the White House she will and would have had intense capabilities to step in and get to work immediately instead of the proverbial 3 years to get their feet 'wet', saying. With so many bullets with Obama's name on them the Vice President is whom we have to anticipate to have as the person we are 'stuck' with in running our country. Even, if I have been a registered Democrat for my entire life and totally agree that we can not afford another Republican hierarchy; I am being forced to vote Republican in the absolute fears that Obama instills upon me and many with his incompetence for plans and strategies. This country was based upon citizenship and the following that God be in guidance and with Obama we will have neither. Watch your backs fellow Americans. Hail the U.S.A. / God Bless America (as we are going to need it). NW-Cowboy in Oregon.
There are many comments posted which some of you may find interesting at: http://sweetp-b307.newsvine.com/_news/2008/08/23/1775735-ap-obama-chooses-biden-as-running-mate

Author is right on, I have been a staunch democrat, voted the straight ticket for 30 years. I do not trust Obama who cannot make up his mind and does not understand what he is talking about, maybe thats why I feel he is talking down and sermonizing to me. I have no real choice except to do what I have never done before, vote for a republican at the top of the ticket, then split the rest with "real" democrats like Nancy Pelosi ?
Heaven help us all

I voted for Hillary and believe she should have been our nominee. However, we all need to vote for teh democratis nominee to keep the Supreme Court from becoming more conservative. We have three liberal justices who are ready to retire or pass away. Whoever is our next President will appoint these justices. Let us hope it is a Democrat.
Having said this, the DNC needs to change the rules. First all states need to have straight primaries in all states. None of this caucus stuff. Second, We all were upset when Bush won the electoral vote but lost the popular vote. Obama won the delegate vote but lost the popular vote. If our candidate 4 years ago should have been President as he had the popular vote. Hillary should be our candidate as she has the popular vote.
DNC CHANGE THE RULES NOW. NO MORE CAUCUSES AND NO MORE DELEGATE VOTES. POPULAR VOTE WINS PURE AND SIMPLE.
