Can You Picture Cher As Catwoman?
(Getty Images) Get this: According to a report in Britain's Telegraph newspaper, Batman franchise director Christopher Nolan wants Cher—yes, Cher—to suit up as Catwoman in the next Batman film. A studio executive is quoted as saying, "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years."
Can this be true? Maybe. But maybe not. EW.com points out that the Telegraph story is "dubious" and "thinly sourced." Meanwhile, according to EW.com, there haven't been any announcements at all regarding the next Batman film—in fact, it hasn't even been confirmed whether Nolan and Christian Bale, who rocks the Bat costume like no other actor has, will even be back onboard for the next film.
Still, the rumor is interesting. I'm torn. On the one hand, Cher certainly has the attitude Catwoman requires, and she looks great at 62. But my first impulse would be to cast Angelina Jolie. Seriously, would any other woman look hotter in Catwoman's leotard?
Then again, I don't know if I would believe Angelina as Catwoman because I have a hard time separating the goddess that is Angelina from any role she plays.
How about Penelope Cruz? She has great lips and a sexy accent.
Oh, and how about Beyonce? I'd love to see this good girl go bad.
I don't know if anyone will ever hold a candle to Eartha Kitt, who was the second actress to play Catwoman on the campy Batman TV series. The way she rolled her r's…and her meow. Eartha was one divine feline.
But let's talk about the here and now. If there is to be a Catwoman in the next Batman movie (we know another Batman movie is inevitable), who would you cast?
A hot drag queen should play Catwoman!

I think Cher would give an interesting twist to Catwoman, although
I'd like to see a really bitchy version also , maybe Pink giving the ol'vinyl a run.

What a pile of crap.
I can't believe I actually read this crap and then had to comment on it.
What the world needs is one more bitchy fag gossip columnist.
Good show Carter!

Someone needs to get their facts straight. Christian Bale is already signed on to do another Batman movie.
Angelina Jolie as catwoman --- Please Not
Posted by: gregg | August 27, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Please NO MORE catwoman, Michelle was the best, and Halle (as much as i love her) ruined it. And NO Angie wouldbt be a good catwoman, she would be a great INK, just leav catwoman alone, no1 does it better than michelle

I'd LOVE to see Cher as Cat Woman. The "twilight" year angle would be a neat twist that would peak my curiosity for sure. Oh, and HELLO, it's CHER for crying out loud! :-)

dont get me wrong i love cher but if anything i think they should just bring michelle pfeiffer back and let her finish what she started or how about hottie milla jovovich i think she'd be quite a cute lil kitty

I think it would be cool to see Cher doing another acting role again however I don't think Catwoman would be the best option for her. Besides I hope they aren't going to recreate all the old batman movies. There were a ton of different villains in the comic series. Why not bring some of them to the screen and make the movie more interesting instead of looking like remakes of the old ones.

I wish that they would try to find some new villians who have not had the movie treatment yet, as opposed to recycling yet another who is just going to draw comparisons and divide people as to who was the best actress in the role.
And for the record, Eartha Kitt was technically the third Catwoman, after Lee Meriweather in the 1966 movie, and then Julie Newmar as the first in the TV series.
I love when Homer, Bart, and Lisa meet Adam West at a car show, who then proceeds to "bash" the two Tim Burton films that had been released by that point.
"And why doesn't Batman dance anymore?"

I say Uma Thurman. She did a kick ass job as Poison Ivy. I'd like to see her spin on Cat Woman.

I'd like to see Janice Dickinson
play Catwoman...could you imagine.
All that plastic costume and still not as much as in whats left of her
evil face. No really...Ru Paul
is a better woman..how fabulous
to have a real diva being Catwoman!!

Julianne Moore. Has to be. She's as gorgeous and glamorous as Michelle, and unlike Cher, she can act her ass off. Cher is a decent actress, but guaranteed that if she were Catwoman, she could never escape into the role and make us forget that she's Cher (like Heath Ledger did with the Joker). Plus, Julianne Moore doesn't look like she's been air-lifted from Disney's animatronics lab.

Come on Cher can't act, sing yes, a classic yes, but act, remember her skits on the cher show, Moonstruck, bad accent, I don't think so

Are you guys insane! Julie Newmar was THE Catwoman. No one one this earth can hold a candle to her.

Actually, there have been previous reports about the next Batman movie, the article is wrong. Johnny Depp has been asked to play the Riddler.

I could let the list go on and on about who catwoman should be, I personally liked halle's performance as cat woman call me crazy, but hey... anyways for cat woman I would say these girls should top the list...Michelle Yeoh, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Rosario Dawson,Angelina of course Kelly Hu (that chick from the X2 movie who fought wolverine with like metal nails)...yeah they would be top of the list in my book!

I think Charlize Theron would be a great choice to play Catwoman. She is Gorgeous and has the look of Selena Kyle as well as the look for Catwoman. After seeing her in Hancock she knows how to play the tough look and looks amazing in black as well. I also agree about using different villans from the comic book. I would love to see Harley Quinn. Jokers obssesive, crazy girlfriend. Either Jenny McCarthey or Anna Farris as the Jester wearing sidekick of Jokers.

Get Michelle back!
Posted by: neocor | August 28, 2008 at 03:35 AM
Cher as catwoman? All I'm picturing is Cher as a character she played from a skit on Sonny and Cher show dressed up in leopard skin leotards and wore cat glasses and thought she was a sex goddess. Can't get beyond that image. Though it was funny can't picture the same character in a batman movie. Maybe a spoof.

I'm goin the blonde route and sayin have Charlize Theron play Catwoman.
Michelle Pfeiffer did a bang up job as our blonde leather clad feline friend. I think Charlize could do an amazing job playing the pyscho/theif/killer. She's intense she's sexy and she knows how to play offbeat in-the-thick characters
youre not likely to find another actress of that generation who can pull it off. Jolie ( of whom im a BIG fan ) is fun to watch but rarely disappears inside her characters.
Or as an interesting 2nd choice...give Ann Hathaway a shot. I'd be intrigued to see what she could do.

I think that cher would be a great catwoman, although, Michelle Pfeiffer did do an amazing job, whats not to say she wouldn't be up for doing it again. For those of you that have said the new Batmans are just remakes of the previous ones, maybe you should watch them again. The older ones are a mere cartoons compared to the newer, darker, more "true to the comics" batman's. and also, they did introduce a comic villian to the screen in "Batman Begins," don't you remember the Scarecrow? anyway, the new movies are amazing, and as a comic book collector, fan and connoisseur the more recent movie series surpasses any previous.

Gwen Stefani would make a great Catwoman.
Posted by: Gary Kleisley | August 31, 2008 at 09:50 AM
What is with thse whack A choices: Cher, Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba?? puh-lease! Obviously the newer Batman movies are darker and edgier! Give me a break here. Get away from the old characters and put in the new ones I have not heard of. I'd like to see Harley Quinn and some lesser known ones. Leave Robin out, he's a terd.

Cher? At the risk of pissing off a Cher fan or two, I'd have to say "No." Why? Because Grace Jones has been disrespected more than enough times now to a point where she deserves the roll...Although Grace Jones is -the- perfect person to play STORM in an X-Men movie, they chose Halle Barry (Does anyone else realize that Storm was supposed to be a TALL character???)... Grace is at least 60 years old...and she still looks good for 40. Grace's laugh alone qualifies her for the role. Plus it would help her promote her comeback with the upcoming CD "Corporate Cannibal" hitting US shelves October 27th. ---Mathew.

My first choice would be Sarah Michelle Gellar, she loves playing dark roles, shes young, beautiful and her physic is amazing. I could definately see her with a whip in hand and being vicious.

Ok. i think Cher is a realy realy bad choice. If you want more gay fans sure why not, but i want to see a very dark. Very sexy Cat Woman. So i choose Pam Anderson. Big o'll boobies and we all know she looks good in leather. And oh GOD please let there be another Poison Ivy and not let it look like Uma. Maybe Kate Beckinsale as a red head. Sexy time.....
Posted by: Tony | September 15, 2008 at 01:16 PM
Um... She looks more like a vampire to me! She seems to live forever! She's (almost?) 70 and doesn't look a day over 30! How did she do that? Downing a gallon of blood every morning?
Posted by: Me | September 16, 2008 at 02:58 AM
I admire Cher, her energy and desire to live and to work (http://rardir.com/?q=Cher), but as far as CatWoman, I'd better give this part to someone younger (no Offences) :)

Cher is one of my favourites.
What a great listing Darling. A really great artist with such a clarity of voice and lyrically terrific.
This very colorful and engaging variety show had all the splash that the 70's wanted to be .Cher does it
all(acting, singing, dancing, joking) and is simply stunning ,never second fiddle to any of her famous guests!
Musical numbers are great!! I would love to relive these shows!
