Kathy Griffin Shakes Up The Military

Kathywalterreed I never thought I'd find myself moved to tears during an episode of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, but I was last night.

As we saw on the season finale, Kathy went to visit the soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. These are the guys who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and came home missing limbs.

I don't know how Kathy, who, incidentally, has performed for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, kept it together as well as she did when she was walking around the hospital talking to guys who have to spend months and even years at the facility.

One of them talked matter-of-factly about how fortunate he was because he was a below-the-knee amputee as opposed to an above-the-knee amputee. Another soldier told her how he feels phantom pains in his missing limb.

But no one was complaining, and a lot of these guys were actually quite funny. I loved Nick, the soldier with the "F*** me, I'm Irish" tattoo.

Used to playing for gay men and women (one of the soldiers assured Kathy that there would be some gay guys in the audience—wink, wink), Kathy wasn't sure she'd be able to make the soldiers laugh during her show and decided to pull out the big guns. "Here's what I have—tits," she said before the show. "Two of them. Count 'em. Real. Old school."

Her breasts weren't much help at the start of her routine. Kathy was bombing. But she eventually won the crowd over when she started to pull the soldiers and their personal stories into her act.

Bravo, Kathy!

I think this episode will go down as the best of My Life on the D-List yet.

Let's enlist your opinions: What did you think of last night's show?

Kathy Griffin is an amazing very strong person and never lets anything get to her, she always makes everyone laugh, it was hard to watch her cry in the episode, when she saw and heard the stories of the soldiers.

I agree when saying that I had no idea that this episode would have driven me to tears. I know that I'm an empath in the sense that if I see someone crying, I'll probably cry too, and it wasn't until she stated her purpose as making them laugh, in the hopes that they would maybe forget how tragic of a situation they are in, is when I got choked up. She laughs and jokes, but deep down, she's a good person. She's honest and real - isn't that the kind of person we want in this world?

Kathy Griffen is an admittedly dishonest media-whore who would shit on-camera if it brought higher ratings. Who knows what she'd do for another Emmy?

In this age of unapologetic self-promotion, I pray that Griffen was not being her usual calculated self as she interacted with those brave, sad soldiers at Walter Reed.

There is no question that this episode was moving. But after made-up romances and seasons of on-and-off camera betrayals, I, for one, find it hard to believe that Griffen has one sincere bone left in her size 2 body.

Did something real finally happen on reality TV? Or did Griffen simply manipulate her final episode at the expense of our country's fallen heroes.

Sadly, I just couldn't tell.

Kathy Griffin's Mom is soo cool! I want to have a glass of wine with her, and let her know how she inspires so many woman!!

How ironic, I caught this episode purely by accident. I was bowled over with Kathy's humanity and comedic flexability. After an initial cold start, she got right on point when Nick (the Irish hunk) came in and "voila it was magic". Kathy beamed and the crowd (supposedly with four chaplains present) was hers. She made her Emmy a very productive prop - which I found to be a great touch. Kathy showed that she does her homework and does not take her audiences for granted. Her call to the pro Joan Rivers for preparation ideas was so smart. Kathy reminds me very much of the early brilliant days of Bette Midler - good company for both.

After watching her "perform" as usual for the cameras, she was as stomach turning as she always is. When can this woman possibly learn what "funny" is. It's like she feels she is Joan Rivers ( in her younger Vegas show days). Never has a psuedo - comedian had to struggle so bone shakingly hard to try and get a smile, let alone try to earn a laugh. Why woudl anyone waste an hour watching that show and shame pon Bravo. Of course this is the same network that thought that Queen Jeff and Flipping Out was a good show. Maybe instead of trying to earn a living by being funny, Miss G might as well marry her wealthy boyfriend. Then she can be the wealthy bitch princess that she seems to have always wanted to be. Funny? Guys she "ain't even close to it. Fake tears and bitchiness that seems to come to her so naturally simply prove that she just sad, very very sad.

This cunt needs to be shot. Dumb, snotty nobody.

I think Kathy is the most funny Comedian out there today working the circuit like no other... Really no other comedian can hold a dildo to her imaginative intuitive intellectual role model for adult comedian entertainment unlike all the rest of the tight ass snobs trying to be their selves when inadequately they're not...! Kudos to you Ms. Griffin for being everything people don't want you to be,right on girlfriend keep up the impeccable implicit as well as explicit work you so well put together for all of us who appreciate the humor that comes out so naturally and inundates the would beez who can't even lighten up for a nano second much less an hour or two to just set back and listen to your incredible story's that have me belly laughing every time you perform ! I want to see you in person and up close to meet you and tell you how really awesome you are and that one day you'll have people begging for your comedy act so much that at that time you'll be able to call the shots and leave everybody wondering what happen ? Why is she so damn popular all the sudden, and why am I standing in line so damn long waiting to see Kathy Griffin ? Because girlfriend you got it like no one else could ever take it...! Honestly girl I have been a fan of yours for many years when you weren't working the circuit and making the big bucks like you're now. One day , you'll see just exactly where I am coming from cause in as little as time before you realize the impact of your political stance you embark what others really want to say but don't have the balls to do so. You pick your balls up and hall them to your next city ; you have balls the size of Manhattan and with every load you extrapolate onto the audience they swallow every single milligram of your staunch reactive sweet juice !
So heres to you Ms. Griffin carry on my love carry on ... and please never stop for one single iota of a moment let the creative bliss eclipse the next when you think you nailed it start it again like my Mom use to say to me "when you think you have pulled out the best keep pulling cause that's just a taste of what's going to happen next"...In other words; that's just the beginning of what's really gonna start coming out ...!
I dig you Kathy griffin I really really DO !!!!!!!

I saw the episode and I am glad she did not dissed The President of the USA. It does not matter how you feel about him remember as a celebrity people who pay to see you, Do Have other political views including GAYS.... so Please, Kathy stay away from Politics, You nor Democrats are NOT the it, Only God!

Kathy is amazing! I loved the finale. Made me tear up. Can't wait for next season. You either love her or hate her but Kathy never changes. She is the real deal.

sounds like alot of jealous queens want to take this DIVA to the mat when she seems human - alive - and makes so many others happy...those "critics" have done nothing except bitch or be a bitch - Kathy is an A-List celebrity in a D-list gay world

I've watched a few of them, but honestly I think she just tries way to hard and really isn't that funny at all.
I'm also pretty sick of every other word coming from her mouth being "The Gays"

"THE GAYS"

Am I the only one truly offended by some white hetero chick viewing all homosexual men as "the gays" -- much less, "HER gays?"

I wonder what would happen if a white comedian talked casually and vociferously about "the blacks," much less, "HIS blacks?"

My bet? He'd be crucified like Michael Richards.

Why do gay men allow this disingenuous patronizing? It's as if Miss Griffen lumps us all together as happy little fairies fluttering about her Diva crown. What other minority would ever allow such thinly disguised bigotry?

Kathy is a comic genius, i can't believe those of you who are so bitter. Seriously, you all just bitch just so you can feel good about yourselves. So shut the fuck up and don't watch her on TV if you hate her so much, fuckin idiots.

People should think twice before deciding to be offended with being called "the gays", homosexuals, faggots, etc...

IT'S A SELF MADE TRAP!

Hasn't any body learnt anything from the experience of the black community? They made a huge deal with the word "nigger" and now they're stuck in a circle with it, destroying careers of some of the best of their own kind. And it maybe forever. And the most regretful thing is, the word "nigger" is a perfectly normal word describing a darker shade of some colors.

We should learn from the Jewish community. They're rightfully offended with the swastika but they also realize that 1/3 of the world population (the Indians, the Chinese, etc...) are not gonna throw away their heritage just because the swastika offends them. They approach the swastika in carefully considered ways. They're not demanding Hindu & Buddhists, etc... to stop using the swastika in their daily lives. They're also not asking for any buildings to be bulldozed or anytown to be renamed just because they happened to form a shape of a swastika or contain the word swastika. They are only strongly against the swastika in hate-related activities. That is a smart move. Believes me, being at both ends of hate-receiving & hate-dispensing , I know I can't stop people calling me faggots just because "I want them to" as well as I know I can't just throw away my swastika just because "people want me to".

We homos should learn to do the same or better yet immediately embrace those so-called "hate" words and neutralize their hate values. If we don't show irritation to hate words, they lose their hate values IMMEDIATELY. The more we get irritated, the more points the other side score!

The show moved me. I was surprised to see how her tears caught me off guard. I was there, I was Kathy.

I watched this episode this afternoon. I think this may be the first time I have ever seen Kathy Griffin display a true, human emotion. She was clearly caught off guard, and that created a moment of vulnerability we rarely see from her.

I was moved by that show. Usually she is just running her big mouth!

In response to Rob's nasty comments, it's not your imbecilic comments about Kathy that bother and bore me and probably everyone else, but more the FACT you need to go back to grammar school and learn HOW to SPEAK and WRITE INTELLIGENTLY and CORRECTLY!

You must have earned a D- or simply flunked English all together. I HATE IGNORANCE and IGNORANT PEOPLE who spout off and slaughter the English language!!

AND, for the record, Kathy's usage of the word FUCK is totally correct in that it IS recognized in all dictionaries printed today. She uses is properly, for she uses it to make a point, an insult or get your attention. Obviously, Rob, you watched and listened and DIDN'T turn to another channel. You MUST be fascinated and impressed with Kathy in spite of your ignorance.

And furthermore, it's HER hole making all the money and NOT YOURS!!! Were I you I'd keep my mouth shut therefore allowing a tiny window of opportunity for you that others will think you MIGHT have some brain cells. DON'T open it and wash away that slim chance!

I was wondering if anyone knew about the soldier named Nick... Any information at all? I would like to start writing him... I fell in love with his tattoo... And he is absolutely adorable... I tried calling the hospital but without his last name they won't be able to find him for me... All I'm wanting is his permission to write him... So if anyone has any infor please email me at eaveschelsea@yahoo.com by the way I LOVE kathy griffin and I'm a 21 year old single mom from MS and I think kathy is hilarious!!!
