Did Lohan Approve this Ad?
So I'm minding my own business, off the gay-blogging clock, enjoying the latest issue of In Touch...a guilty pleasure I admit to, if only to see what that Chace Crawford is up to these days. Anyways, I come across this spread advertising MTV's upcoming VMAs, featuring a huge pic of the summer's It Girl Katy Perry.
There's been plenty of debate, in the gay community at least, about her two hit songs, "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed A Girl", but it's hard to know if MTV chose to highlight Perry in their ads in order to court controversy or because she is undeniably a breakout star this year.
But these thoughts rushing through my head all became completely irrelevant as my eyes travelled to the upper right hand corner of the ad. There, peeking over a faux-fold, were the come hither eyes of celesbian Lindsay Lohan. WTF?
I kid you not that I stared at the ad for a good five minutes, trying to dissect what was going on here. It's just so...random. Is MTV trying to literally piggyback off of Lohan's current public display of sexual ambiguity to spice up their ad?
It's not like MTV is the first one to "out" La Lohan, who is clearly playing up her relationship with lady friend Samantha Ronson for the press. But she's yet to come out, and there really isn't any hard evidence that the two are dating. So where is the line that it feels like MTV has crossed?
I can't answer that, and who really can other than Lindsay? And even then, what's the truth and what's spin? It would be easier to feel outrage toward MTV if she had actually come out - then the ad would be clearly inappropriate. But she's not, and while the country is once again politically divided, the one thing red and blue states can agree on is yes, Lindsay has most likely kissed a girl.
Did she like it? Will we ever know? Is it our business anyways, and is it ok for the media business to use gossip and innuendo in their advertising? And what about a double-standard? Would they have ever considered running a pic of Chace Crawford or Wentworth Miller (both common topics of the gay rumor mill) in reference to Perry's "UR So Gay"? For some reason, I think not. But I guess because Lohan and Ronson's relationship, whatever it may be, is on display it makes it ok. That, and you know, lesbians are so rock 'n roll!
I can't decide if it's offensive or just marketing geniusness. Who knows - maybe LL has big plans on coming out at the VMAs. Wouldn't that just be fitting? But what do you think? Considering this girl isn't "out", and assuming that she has nothing to do with the VMAs, is MTV out of line here?
Oh come on! Is this really even worth a topic? I think anyone who takes Katy Perry's songs as insults are "intellectually retared". its fun songs that mean no disrespect. I love the girl. She loves gay people so dont feel bad about the music. As for the ad, youre looking too much into it. Its a little tease and hardly a big enough one to notice, well unless youre an over-analyzer.

Oh please, Lindsay is a big ol' lezzie! Granted, this is the first time I've ever seen her referred to as a "celesbian" (and all my lesbian friends just got a text saying hell must have frozen over). However, let's all face facts! She and Samantha aren't hiding anything. Yeah she's not on a magazine cover that says "Yep, I'm gay" but really do we need that in 2008? If MTV wants to make a big lezzie ad, is it any worse than that time t.a.t.u. was on there with a herd of undershirt glad schoolgirls making out with each other?

I think those above me are right...you are reading way too much into this. This is all just a ploy to sell magazines and make people want to know more, so that the big wigs can make more money.

Well, another rumor on the block claims Katy Perry and "celesbian" L Lohan will be doing some of their own lip-locking at the VMAs this year reminiscent of Madonna-Britney-Christina years ago. And since Perry is performing "Like a Virgin", might this be possible? Again, this is just another tabloid rumor that really isn't worth anyone's time (unless unemployed, like me).

I a pretty big over-analyzer, but I don't think I would have really thought anything odd of it.
However, I'd like to ask that you *not* stop having Lindsay Lohan stories. No matter what people say about Lindsay...she's a very good actress!
