SKYY Spirits Forms A Marketing Partnership "Milk"

Milk_toast Let's raise a toast to SKYY Spirits.

The San Francisco-headquartered company's SKYY Vodka will be the official spirit partner of the upcoming feature film Milk. Directed by Gus Van Sant, the film opens on November 26 and tells the story of Harvey Milk, San Francisco's first openly gay elected official.

"It is a privilege to be working closely with Focus Features on a series of promotional activities to help honor someone from our own hometown of San Francisco as historically significant as Harvey Milk," says Gerry Ruvo, chairman and CEO of SKYY Spirits.

I like the way this executive thinks!

"Top Chef" Is Back: Did Last Night's Season Premiere Sizzle Or Fizzle?

Topchefpatrickjamierichard Top Chef added a little spice to its cast with a trio of gay and lesbian chefs as we saw on last night's fifth season premiere.

I love how Richard, Patrick and Jamie quickly bonded and dubbed themselves "Team Rainbow." Wasn't it great to see gay people supporting each other on one of these shows as opposed to being catty? (By the way, I visited the Bravo site after the show, and the network is actually selling a Team Rainbow t-shirt!)

I wasn't the only one who loved Team Rainbow: Bravo did a text poll during the show, asking whether people were rooting for Team Rainbow or the Euro Duo (made up of Fabio, the Italian chef, and Finnish chef Stefan), and Team Rainbow won by a landslide, raking in seventy percent of the vote.

I have to admit that Team Rainbow's Richard is my favorite chef. This cuddly bear of a guy made me laugh right out of the gate when he quipped, "Of course, the inner queen inside me is screaming to know, 'Where's Padma? And what is she wearing?' "

Dan Savage Talks Prop 8 on "The Colbert Report"

Rodney King Hearts the Gays

What does it say about a society when the victim of the world's most infamous televised beating finds his best forum for discussing it on Celebrity Rehab? And what does it say, in the wake of Prop 8, when someone who could easily hate the entire world makes what I think might be one of the most open declarations about gays I've seen in a while. Even "No on Prop 8" ads barely mentioned gay people...

The Shatner/Takei "Feud" Escalates

Beam me up, Scotty.

I feel like I am feeding into a joint publicity stunt that has been created by two old farts desperate for attention, but it is my job to report this kind of stuff, so here it goes:

The war of words between Star Trek's Captain Kirk and Mr. Sulu rages on.

William Shatner has just released another video on his Web site. In it, he responds to George Takei's claim that he did indeed invite Shatner to his wedding.

"Well, he didn't, okay," Shatner tells a woman posing as an interviewer, "and I understand him not inviting me to his wedding."

Charmed Lives 2

Group_bathroom4_2(Female Trouble c/o VH1)

An American writer, who I'm sure no one's heard of in the last 75 years (so I won't name him) once wrote that “Charming people live up to the very edge of their charm, and behave as outrageously as the world lets them.” If that's true, then the women of "Rock of Love" are most charming.

Mickey Rourke Gets Homophobe-y

Mickeyrourke Part of me can't even believe I'm writing about this guy, but then again, he is in his own way a living legend (just the fact that he's alive is newsworthy). And he was hot in Angel Heart and incredible in Barfly. He's also one of those guys that Hollywood has always wanted to succeed. No matter how much of a screw-up he is off-camera, or how many bad career choices he makes, somebody's always rooting for Rourke.

John Leonard, TV Critic, 1939-2008

In the flurry of political news last week, we missed the passing of a truly important voice.  John Leonard, all-around cultural critic and TV critic for the CBS Sunday Morning Show (among many other vehicles), passed away Wednesday at the age of 69.
