You could almost sense that both were struggling to find some middle-ground with each other - where they could have chemistry that they both could enjoy. But it never happened. After each station break, you could tell the director asked them to be friendlier to each other and to laugh at the same jokes. It seemed more of a struggle for Anderson. Maybe the issue was that Kathy bitches - that's her center for comedy. And it was New Years - where people look forward to hope. Hope and bitchyness do not make good bedfellows, yo. :)

I enjoy the combination of Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper because as professionals put together on the show they are so diverse. On her show there was an episode that was centered around their first work effort and either through the magic of TV or through chemistry they were fast friends. I think with his professional demeanor and her over-the-top delivery it creates a presentation that is quite balanced in fun with calm v. crazy. As for his laughter, it appears he easily finds humor in what she says.

kathy griffith is funnier on her own in a different format - anderson cooper can be funny too - but times square for a new year's celebration isn't a good "arena" for them - they had difficulty hearing each other and they spoke over each other; thus, making for more confusion and missed jokes, etc. - a good "try" with poor results - i felt bad for them.

They are the ODD COUPLE-- and it works. Anderson is so adorable and innocent- tries to maintain a "serious" news demeanor and Kathy is so "out there". The combination is brilliant. She's not always funny but her energy is great and you kind of sit on the edge of your seat wondering if she is going to go over the line and say something really . . . well-- over the line. We need to see more of them together and see them really find their chemistry and how to make it work.
