What Did You Think Of "Dexter" Finale?

Michaelchall1 Is anyone else out there a fan of Dexter? And does anyone else out there think that Dexter is the sexiest serial killer ever?

I am obsessed with this show and the character that Michael C. Hall plays to perfection. Seriously, who knew a serial killer could be so hot and so deep?

Last night marked the show's third season finale, and I'm going to talk about what happened. So if you Tivo'd the show and didn't watch it yet and don't want any of the surprises ruined, stop reading this entry now.

Alright, let's talk about last night's finale.

I loved it.

As we saw, Dexter pinned Miguel Prado's murder on The Skinner, although Miguel's suspicious brother Ramon literally came gunning for Dexter. After Ramon pulled a gun on Dexter at his rehearsal dinner and got arrested, you'd think Dexter might have killed the guy. Instead Dexter neutralized the situation by digging deep into Ramon's wounded psyche, giving him permission to stop cleaning up all of the messes left behind by Miguel.

Later in the episode, Dexter tapped into his own wounded psyche and had a major revelation: Captured by The Skinner and tied to a table, Dexter realized that he wanted to live, and he wanted to marry Rita, and he wanted to be a father, and he wanted to be happy. He forgave his own father for his failings, and he fought for his life, playing a smooth mind game with The Skinner and ultimately turning the tables on the creepy killer.

Only someone like Dexter could then walk down the aisle, marrying Rita, promising to be the very best husband and father "that I can be."

It was a nice touch when Dexter's hand, wounded in his battle with The Skinner, started to bleed, dripping onto the back of Rita's dress as they danced—there had to be some blood spilled at his wedding. He is a serial killer, after all.

Immediately after the episode ended, one of my friends called to complain that it wasn't as dramatic as last season's ender that saw Sergeant Doakes blown to bits and Dexter traveling all the way to Paris to take a stab at Lila. But I thought the episode was plenty dramatic and, more importantly, showed some major character development for Dexter, who is slowly but surely discovering that he's human like the rest of us.

We also saw that Dexter isn't the only person with a secret. In fact, everyone around him is harboring secrets, including Rita, who was apparently married not once before but twice before. Having a secret of his own, Dexter decided to respect her obvious wish not to share hers.

So what did you think of last night's finale? Were you satisfied? Any favorite scenes? And where do you think the show will go next year when Dexter becomes a father?

This was a small moment in last night's finale, but I loved in when Dexter's tomboyish sister Deb said, "Me in a dress—I feel like a transvestite."

Deb always cracks me up.

I'm also a huge fan of the show but I kind of agree with your friend, the ending was not as dramatic as last season's, although as a whole, I thought this season was much better than the last, primarily because Jimmy Smits' character was so much more interesting and more nuanced than Lila's. Love all the characters, though I'm not crazy about Rita, I find her a little annoying. Interestingly enough, the only "innocent" in the whole show is their boss - love the actress and her journey in this season, losing her friend, figuring out Prado killed her, etc. Basically I felt all the characters were given a depth this season that they never had in previous ones.

I thought it was amazing! It wasn't as action-packed as last season overall but I liked it just as much. I still think the first season was the absolute best so far.

That said, I loved Jimmy Smits as Miguel Prado and I thought Lauren Velez rocked this season. I enjoyed the depth of each character in this amazingly well-crafted show, however I felt that some seeds were planted and ultimately left unresolved. I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing but I am just dying to know what Deb's digging into her father's past will expose and I was sure that Quinn was hiding something very juicy from his past that we might discover. I guess these are cliff hangers!

Also I agree with the blogger about that last shot, with the blood trickling down the back of Rita's wedding dress... obviously a foreshadowing of more dark and disturbing twists to come. I personally can't wait for season 4.

I have never missed an episode of Dexter and some I have watched several times. I was somewhat happy with the ending and it seems like a new beginning for Dexter as he goes into the new season with no one on his tail but Rita. When has a show ended with no suspense to lead into the next season. Great for a brand new exciting season again next year

Thanks for trhe up date on dexter..i used to watch the show but no longer do I hAve showtime,

Been watching from the beginning. I think people need to remember that this is a series and one should look at it as such. These characters are meant to change and grow. The writing is impeccable. The cast is flawless. Jimmy Smits as a guest was a home run. As for the ending and others saying it lacked as much as last season, I think it had plenty. That last little sight of blood at the end left me thirsty for more...

I though the third season was outstanding.
Miguel Prado's character was just a pleasure after season tow's slightly irritating Lila (with that accent).
The script at the point when Dexter broke his hand to free himself, was crisp, witty and clever.
And the drop of blood on the wedding dress, sheer genius, I was ready to take my bank card out and pre-order the 4th season right away.
