"American Idol" Set To Launch Season Eight: Are You In Or Out?

American-idol American Idol kicks off its eighth season tomorrow night on Fox, but do you care?

Last year, the show saw its lowest ratings ever, and to be honest, I can't even remember who won.

Okay, I just looked it up. David Cook won American Idol last season. I can't believe I forgot that! I even blogged about the whole David Cook vs. David Archuleta finale!

While my memory fails me, and I didn't download David Cook's or David Archuleta's debut albums from iTunes, I have never missed a season of American Idol, and I don't plan to miss this one.

So, yes, I will be watching American Idol tomorrow night, and I think a lot of other people will join me.

For starters, the economy stinks, and what else can we do but stay home and chill out in front of the TV these days?

Kara Secondly, I am curious about this new judge they have hired. Her name is Kara DioGuardi, and she is an experienced songwriter and producer who has worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera, American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion and Pink. Kara just might liven up the judges' table, especially during those shows where Paula Abdul can't keep her head up.

Paula Oh, Paula. I make fun of her, but she's forever my girl. I love her. I can't help it. So what if she is loopy? Our best divas are a little out of it from time to time.

Simon-cowell-1 And Simon Cowell is my man. He tells it like it is, and I rarely disagree with him.

Randy-jackson After all of these years, I still find these people—well, maybe not Randy "Everybody's My Dawg" Jackson—entertaining, and I love a good talent contest.

Not that we'll see much talent the first few episodes, which are devoted to the auditions. Every year, I am shocked by the delusional people who try out, and I cringe when the inevitable tone-deaf gay guy, convinced he is the next Celine, auditions for the judges, fails to make it, then bitches to the camera about what a bleepity-bleep Simon is.

Hopefully, that guy won't be one of you GayTVBlog readers this season!

Couldn't care less about watching this show.
Some people would argue that Great mainstream talent has come from the show.
But, empty pop songs and judges making fun of other people... nah. I'll pass.

Never liked the show. Reality shows in general are pretty much over-rated.

I don't even think this article will get that much response. This show has always been a boring version of Star Search.

They should break each season into 3 - 1 hr sections: The Try Outs, The Finalists, The American Idol. Then just sell DVDs.

I'd buy 8 seasons on 8 discs (or 16 discs, since each season has to have SPECIAL FEATURES).

Now ... Bring back Star Search! LOL

What I wouldn't give for the variety show comeback! I have enough reality in my life!!

Yet I care enough to make this post saying I never cared about Karaoke Idol.

I don't believe the American public hasn't grown tired of this yet. We have never had a problem as a society finding young people full of hopes and dreams that we can turn into soulless pop music automatons who will be loved and revered for about six months than thrown away until they are inevitably featured on a "Where are they now?" program on VH-1 or porn magazine centerfold. Tiffany, anybody? Do we still need to go on a nationwide hunt for them?

It was over after Kelly Clarkson when it was needed after that 9/11 BS.
And Clay Acheman (I don't care how you spell it).
Like we really didn't see him coming out the closet, right.
what sucks is that some people actually thing that Reality shows are for real.
There is way to many of them on TV.
I amespecially fond NOT of the new bachelor, with the kid & all.
What does he say, I am going to marry someone from this show.
You can't just go to 7 11 or some other comvenience store for an easy solution for something like that.
It is like pimping a guy out at a meat market.
But none of the relationhships from these shows have worked have they?
In other words, forget IDOL.
It has already been done to the point of Overdose. Escpecially when it comes to the GAYEST of them ALL ---Ryan Seacrest.

this is boring and so unoriginal .... flat untasty pop songs with just celine dion type voices ... what not .... id prefer the serie house of saddam instead .... anything but this show ..... i like art .... this is not art this is entertainment for people with no taste or intellect .... there is way way way better in music these days than amer idol ...zzzzzz

Wheres the David Cook pic?! No fair.
