"The Golden Globe Awards" Return: Did Your Faves Win?
Hollywood skipped The Golden Globe Awards last year because of the writers strike, but the show went on this year. I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of award shows. But I always enjoy the Golden Globes, which are a lot looser than The Academy Awards. It seems like the actors are actually having fun at the Golden Globes. That's probably because they can drink and don't have to be tortured by those generally awful song-and-dance numbers that they have to endure along with the television audience during the Oscars.
This year's Globes marked the year of the underdog in the film categories. Slumdog Millionaire won four awards, including best drama. Mickey Rourke made what has to be the comeback of the year, taking home the award for best dramatic actor for his role in The Wrestler, and little-known Brit Sally Hawkins, who was the star of the little-seen (at least in America) Happy-Go-Lucky, beat out the one and only Meryl Streep, the star of Mamma Mia!, for best actress in a musical or comedy. No one saw that coming!
Meanwhile, even in death, Heath Ledger was honored for his work, posthumously winning best actor in a supporting role for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight.
As for the TV awards, Tina Fey capped off a fantastic year with a best actress in a musical or comedy trophy for her work on 30 Rock, which also won the award for best television series in the musical or comedy category. In one of the funniest moments of the night, Fey's co-star Tracy Morgan accepted that award, telling the audience that Tina said he could accept if Barack Obama won the presidential election. "Welcome to post-racial America! I'm the face of post-racial America! Deal with it, Cate Blanchett!" Tracy proclaimed. "We'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press, especially me, because a black man can't get no love at the Emmys. I love you, Europe!"
Other TV award winners included Alec Baldwin, who won for best actor in a musical or comedy for 30 Rock, and Anna Paquin, who garnered the award for best actress in a drama series for True Blood.
And in a year where redemption seems to be the prevailing theme, (Mickey Rourke, Robert Downey Jr), I have to say that seeing reformed bad-boy Colin Farrell all cleaned up was a highlight. He looked fabulous - just the right amount of scruff (very similar to Brad's, I might add...Angie likes her men unshaven I guess...) - and his self-deprecating humor was charming. The fact that he won for "In Bruges" (did anyone see it? I'm a Farrell fan and even I skipped that one...) just makes it all the sweeter. Hollywood seems to be on these guys' sides for once. Let's hope Farrell can keep it together, 'cause the way he's looking I'd like to see alot more of him. Soon. Naked. Hey - it works for Kate Winslet's career, why not his?
One of the biggest TV wins of the night went to Mad Men, which won for best television series.
Can we talk about Mad Men star Jon Hamm for a minute? He looked hot in his Armani tuxedo. In fact, I'd like to give him a Golden Globe for hottest man at The Golden Globes.
As for the ladies, Kate Winslet, who won best actress awards for her turns in Revolutionary Road and The Reader, wins my award for most beautiful woman of the night. I'm going to go as far as to declare her more beautiful than Angelina Jolie. Call me crazy, but I like women who eat and smile.
So what did you think of last night's show? Did your favorites win? Any major disappointments?
I was let down when Michael C. Hall didn't win best actor in a drama for Dexter and when Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother didn't get best supporting actor in a series, mini-series or motion picture made for television, a ridiculously broad category that pitted him against four actors from HBO projects, including Tom Wilkinson, who was nominated for his turn in the HBO film John Adams and ultimately won.

Anyone else find it funny that the link to this story is for "Colin's Comeback" but Farrell isn't even mentioned in the article? Incidentally, he won Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical for "In Bruges". Haven't seen it yet, but definitely want to!

Boyd, you should have read the whole article. There's a half-paragraph (a dozen or more lines) about Colin Farrell! Actually, as award show recaps go, this article was pretty good.

In my defense, when I wrote that at 11AM, the paragraph mentioning Colin Farrell was not there. I know because I searched for Farrell's name and didn't find it.

Call me a BAD BOY, but I think Colin looks better DIRTY!!!
;-]
Either way I'd Flip Over for both sides many times for that coin.
Kate Winslet looks gorgeous in this pic, but sorry Angelina Hits me straight every time & even more when she does smile.
I didn't watch the show, because to me it is just another Marketing scheme.
I will see some of these Movies Maybe when they are on Cable eventually. I am tired of getting ripped of by overated movies for the past 20 years.

The mention about Colin begins by Alec Baldwin's photo; the quote begins, "I have to say that seeing reformed bad-boy Colin Farrell all cleaned up was a highlight."
Its gossip, reporting skills isn't high on GDC's list.

Mickey Rourke's comeback story reminds me a lot of Robert Downey Jr. for some reason
