Lambert Loses, But He's Still a Winner
Ladies and gentleman, we have a winner! After weeks of nail biting, Kris Allen was just officially crowned the new "American Idol."
Gay fans have been cheering on LA based singer/actor Adam Lambert for months now, but Allen pulled off a major upset by overtaking glam rocker Lambert in the final weeks of competition.
Now's your chance to talk to Adam. Post a message to him on the message boards below, and we'll send all of the comments in their entirety to FOX next week. Let him know how you feel!
[Editor's note/update: We are truly moved by the outpouring of support each of you has shown to Adam Lambert in the comments section below. If you haven't read them, take the time to do so now -- you've all banded together in your support and it's downright...touching. If you still haven't posted a comment for Adam, you still have time. The boards will be open until Tuesday, May 26th, and then we'll send all of the comments to Adam via FOX.].

Everyone thinks it's a big upset, but more runner ups have gone on to do better than the idols themselves. Adam will be able to be who he is and choose what his music will be. If he had won idol he'd be smothered by a pop/rock contract from idol. Adam you will go above and beyond this because of who you are. You have inspired me to never quit trying to live out my dreams!!!!

Best luck to him, but to be honest I am more than glad that Kris won. It's good to bring some people down to earth everynow and then.

hey you rock you are so talented keep going you know you have fans all over the world including costa rica :) where you got me and all of my friends cheering you on....

I'm glad that Kris won because I have been rooting for him since the beginning. I like Adam and I know he'll do well, probably better than Kris, but personally, I preferred Kris' style of singing to Adam's.
And for those that say he lost because he was gay, shut it. He lost because the majority of people voting are teenage girls and if my 4 nieces are any indication they all voted for Kris. They think he's "SO CUTE!!!!"
Posted by: Dennis | May 20, 2009 at 11:02 PM
Kris winning was such a total farce. I really don't care for either one, but have watched Idol since the beginning, and it's getting more and more like a popularity contest, and it really sucks. But what blew me away was the fact that the supposedly popular person in this competition didn't win at all... Kris sings out of the side of his mouth, and though he looks cute, doesn't sound all that great. Adam sings like a broadway star who likes to scream in every song he does, but he has a great voice none-the-less. Sure, he covers up his bad skin with tons and tons of show make up and eye liner, but he really should have been the winner, and FOX needs to find a way to get a hold of these voters, because the competition is getting out of hand. At this point, even Sanjaya could have won...

I am a fan of Adam's but I felt for this competition Kris was a better fit for the masses. I do believe that Adam will do great things and I look forward to hearing new music from him and I hope to see him on tour once he breaks free from the American Idol tour.
Not that you need it, but good luck on your future and I want you to know that we support you, gay or not, out or not.

Very inspirational work! You have much more talent than John Mayer... I mean Kris Whos-Its. If youre in the market for a great lead guitarist, Ill do it!
Good luck with what ever is next.

Congrats Adam Good Job! Wish you luck with your album:)

Adam....what can one say? I personally think you should have won. I think the Danny fans were the ones that put Chris over the edge. You by far were more American Idol material....theatrical week after week...also putting on a great show, and thats what it's all about. An Idol should be one who can preform..show one's talents in different scenarios.I pegged you from week one.No matter the fact that you were runner-up I will bet my bottom dollar that it will be you making a name in the entertainment world.Good luck in everything you do
Posted by: mickey59 | May 20, 2009 at 11:26 PM
Thank you, Adam, for who you are and a fabulous voice. When you got into the final two, I know that you are already a winner! Whether by the American Idol or by out in the market for grab! I am sure the contracts are lining up for you to pick. I got a feeling that one of them from Simon. Best of luck to you and look forward to your new CD.

Adam, you may have lost in the finals, but quite frankly, you had the vocal chops, the charisma, and the overall package to win it all! :) You are a phenomenal person, and I'm sure that your parents are so proud of you, as we gay men are. Think about the career you had ahead of you! It comes down to everything that you've accomplished--you've worked so hard to get to this point, and you're gonna go places. I've heard some of your Broadway stuff, and I was blown away. For me, there is no doubt that you will outsell Kris on the charts and that you will sell out stadiums. So much of the nation loves you and was shocked. Don't think that your journey stops here. It doesn't. Your performances of songs like "Mad World" and "Ring of Fire" are sure to get you noticed. You are what America needs right now, not Kris Allen. You are the *true* American Idol, regardless of what some stupid result says. Best of luck to you, though you hardly need any. :)

THE BEST MAN WON!!!!
Posted by: Eddie | May 20, 2009 at 11:53 PM
GlamAdam! You fine pro. You certainly won my heart. And I think runner-up was the perfect outcome. Why? We can all just thank AI for giving you the exposure that you wanted and that we so enjoyed. Now you're free to do yo thing, joyfully, without the AI monkey on you back. Maybe I'm just jaded, but I suspect that AI is totally rigged and they wouldn't have allowed you to win anyway since you don't fit the broad-appeal mold, and not just because you act queer but, ironically, for the same reason that the judges cooed over you: that you so totally outrangeous. (And outrageous.) Rock on, darling. Your strut with Kiss was by light years the best performance of finale night, just as your amazing version of A Change is Gonna Come (how appropos) blew the doors off the night before (Sam Cooke would have beamed). As for the 'phobes, I say, let them keep digging that hole... eventually they'll fall in.

Hello Adam,
Never mind about Who will be American Idol this season. Just want to say : YOU ARE MY IDOL.

AMERICA VOTED WRONG!
ADAM LUMBERT IS THE TRUE AMERICAN IDOL!
I LOVE YOU ADAM!
Posted by: Osvaldo Estrada | May 21, 2009 at 12:06 AM
I think there should be another vote that takes place. I have been seeing comments on different sites that peoples votes were going to Chris when the people were voteing for Adam. Adam was 1,3,5. If this was happening then it is time for American Idol to own up to screwing things up and do a revote. Adam you blew Chris away every week and I will never by a CD that Chris puts out. This is the not the 1st time they have gotten it wrong. Adam I hope to see you on Broadway sometime and I cant wait for your 1st Album. If you can get out of the American Idol Contract if you are under 1 do it and do it fast. Ask Kelly Clarkson what she did. If you cant do it then force them to promote you as much as Chris not that you will need it. You should have won. Hope to see you on your own without American Idol Soon. You are the best to ever step on an Idol Stage.

I don't care what they say about Kris Allen. Yeah he's cute, yeah he's won the hearts of many through his soft and pleasant vocals. Adam you gave me the CHILLS when I first heard your voice. Seeing you on stage was like being in a rock concert from the tv audience. Even though you got runner up, you won't have to feel binded to the AI style that they will force you to sing. You are an inspiration to many regardless of your orientation. There are no boundaries you can not cross especially if you have come this far! Best of luck!
Posted by: Jarrett | May 21, 2009 at 12:09 AM
I still can't understand this. But rest assured, friend, that your career is going to be huge. You are more than an American idol; you will be a global ICON. I will be the front and center for your first concert, and I will be the first to buy your debut album.
You are a star.

my 6 year old niece wants to marry you.
and so do i.

Well i think Idol was rig because adam should of won, no way kris sings at all omg are they crazy I think they better redo the votes bacause that is not fair Adam, has it all he's a star. and adam if your reading this please let them know that your are the winner, ever voting place I went to vote you were the winner and a star and foxe should know this, and you should stand up for that. show your rights.:) luv you bye.:)
Posted by: Raymond | May 21, 2009 at 12:31 AM
Best of luck Adam . You were trying to hard and were a bit over the top. It appeared the IDOL show was in tune with it the way they favored you but in the long run Kris was a better fit for the general public. I am sure Adam will find his niche somewhere but for this show it was not for him to be winner. Congrats to Kris and his fans and family.
Posted by: Tom | May 21, 2009 at 12:34 AM
I know I am supposed to worship him because he's gay, but I can't get beyond that stupid hair. He looks like a Monchhichi. Google it.
Posted by: Steven | May 21, 2009 at 12:40 AM
I don't care about American Idol, but it goes to show you America is still against gays, we had a very average guy with a great voice and no personality overtake the more talented and interesting of the two.
Somehow I think he'd of won the thing had he not been openly gay, but maybe that's just cynicism.
To Adam: I'm sure you'll have a great career, I don't listen to your type of music, but there's definitely a huge audience for you.
Posted by: Revrant | May 21, 2009 at 12:45 AM
Man...
Amazing voice and performance talent. Who cares who won...they were both great, and Kris likely has millions more tweens a-twitterin (and a-textin').
...but for Adam, to be able to perform with Kiss AND Queen...it's almost as if the producers were presenting him with his favorite wet-dream of all time!
I am SO not a rocker,
and I am SO buyin' that man's first album.
Posted by: rredwolff | May 21, 2009 at 12:59 AM
Oh...and *WHO* won...?
Kris-locked into an exclusive contract for the year
Adam- hmm. Looks like he actually gets to write his *own* ticket.
This was completely a win-win.

Adam Lambert is the reason that I returned to watching "American Idol" for the first time since season three and he will be the reason I don't return for next season. He embodies EVERYTHING that it means to be an "idol." From his incredible voice to his impeccable stage presence, from his changing image to his emotional interpretations, he's the complete package. One good thing does come out of this. While Adam may not have the "title" of "American Idol," he'll be allowed to have more creative freedom and move audiences even more, like he has all season long. And, another good thing is that he doesn't have to release that horrible song.
To Adam, thank you for all you've given to your fans all season long. I, personally, thank you for your incredible performance of "If I Can't Have You." While I've been dealing with losing someone that means the world to me, that song moved me to tears and expressed so much of what I'm feeling inside. You possess an amazing gift in being able to touch people with your voice, interpretations, and how you connect with lyrics and convey them. I can't wait to see what you have in store for your future! "American Idol" is done, but stardom is on the horizon!
Posted by: Sean | May 21, 2009 at 01:05 AM
Buddy, this is just a stepping stone in your road of greatness that will be your stardom. Look at the past second place winners....they are more famous than the actual winners. Think about that. Just keep it up and don't change a thing. I was sad that you lost but you were already a winner the minute you entered this competition. I see great things ahead for you Adam. Great job. I will be buying your many, many records you are going to put out in the near future. ADAM NUMBER 1!!!
Posted by: Jose | May 21, 2009 at 01:10 AM
Both guys are quite talented, but I was disappointed (and yet not surprised) by the outcome. Kris is a very good singer who happens to have a boyish cuteness which appeals to a large part of this country. Adam, however, is an absolutely phenomenal singer and performer, and his style appeals to me more than that of any guy I've ever seen on the show. The difference is in the outcome. I'm happy for Kris, but I have no doubt Adam will go far and be immensely successful. And I really hope that if he is gay, he comes out fully!
A talented out celebrity is an asset to our community.

I am Jason Gunn. I am a model, singer, actor
It is my goal in life to sing with you! and hey! were both from San Diego!
(go padre's... even tho they suck...)
Remember me Adam... because we are gonna sing together.(if you want) No doubt in my mind.
If you can find a way. get a hold of me. i want my dream to come true.

P.S.
You have raised the bar for singers World Wide.

Adam is the new hotness. Not everyone can do justice to Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Sam Cooke all at once. You didn't get it, but you didn't need it. No one really loses American Idol. Line your eyes, jingle your chains, wail like you mean it, and REPRESENT!

Posted by: Davi | May 21, 2009 at 03:03 AM
Dear Adam,
This is lee, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I rooted for you from Day 1 this season and I must admit that I was deeply upset and disappointed with the results!! Americans can never get it RIGHT eh??? :-)
If only we Asians could vote for you!! But no matter what, I know that you are destined for greater things to come and your future is sunshine bright ! I look forward to buy your 1st. CD when it's released! You are my one and only Idol, as far as I'm concerned and you deserve to be!
Posted by: lee | May 21, 2009 at 03:11 AM
Oh, and I'm so glad you don't have to be tied down and record that awfull "No Boundaries" song!! You are way above it and I do hope you will include "Mad World" in your first CD release. That performance (Year you were born week) remains one of my many favourites (Ring Of Fire comes a close second!!)and a classic act, no one will ever top it!
You are one HOT IDOL!! :-)
Posted by: lee | May 21, 2009 at 03:23 AM
Dear Adam,
You are and will always be a winner to me. Your singing brings joy of tears to my eyes. Keep up the work, you will always be number one. I would love to compose a musical just for you. If I had the chance I would do it.
Alfred

Dear Adam,
Keep being the star you are!! Your a winner in my eyes. Look forward to you first CD.
Posted by: michael | May 21, 2009 at 03:52 AM
I am really surprised that anyone thinks that Kris was a better singer. He was clearly most popular because he was good looking. His voice was nowhere near the caliber of Adams. But as someone else has said...runner ups have gone on to do much better things and I don't think Adam has anything to worry about. Good luck Adam and I know we will be seeing more of you in the near future.
Posted by: dennis | May 21, 2009 at 04:12 AM
It's a total travesty that America crowned a mediocrity and shunned talent, because the mediocre made them more comfortable. I was hoping we'd gotten beyond that. We still have a lot of growing up to do.
Posted by: Kevin | May 21, 2009 at 04:32 AM
Lambert is way too creepy, I hope that thing is just really odd and not gay.
Posted by: Carson | May 21, 2009 at 04:40 AM
People need to stop politicizing the whole thing and stop acting like Adam lost because he was gay. There are many possible factors why he didn't win: people were turned off by the theatrics/screaming, Kris was "cuter", people were overconfident in Adam winning and didn't vote, people didn't buy all the hype and praise that was put on him, etc. The judges outright said he was going to take it all, and they do have the ability to sway votes, but people also resent being "told" who they should vote for.
I wanted to like Adam, because he does have an amazing although often times irritating voice, but he was never consistent. Sometimes he was amazing, and sometime he butchered the hell out of some amazing songs (i.e., U2's "One"). I'm all for supporting gay artists, however, I think there's an attitude within the gay community that if it's written, performed, or about gay people, it's gotta be good, whether it's a film or a musician, when a lot of times, it's really not the case (case in point: Rufus Wainright).
Posted by: KC | May 21, 2009 at 04:55 AM
Number1, I am not a fan of rock music, but you turned it on for me. The thing that makes you great is you will make hundreds of cd's and we. the buying public, will not know what to expect next. Much like Rod Stewart, that slipped into the "Classic SOngs" music genre, and did it with style, never loosing who he is, I expect the same and more from you in the years to come. I was tired of watching IDOL, till you appeared. There will never be a season to match this one. We will see and remember you long after Kris, the cute churchy guy is long gone. See you in vegas one day soon! Love you, you DID win!
Posted by: John Sebastian | May 21, 2009 at 04:57 AM
An Adam win would have been a threat to traditional marriage and Slowbama would have to consider repealing DOMA and DADT. The crustians would have none of it.
Glad you didn't win, it would have killed your upcoming stellar career.
Posted by: ohiney | May 21, 2009 at 04:58 AM
Well Adam, now you get to pursue your dreams, free of the AI contract. Watching you perform with KISS and Queen, INCREDIBLE. You could quite possibley (no definately) be the first person ever capable of replacing Freddie Mercury as Queen's lead singer. As Paula said, YOU ARE A STAR - now make us all proud and BLOW EM AWAY baby!
Posted by: Todd | May 21, 2009 at 04:59 AM
Adam is a good performer, but after studying vocals for many years, it was clear to me from early on that Kris has a better voice. Adam's talent will better be utilized on Broadway, remember that was the concerns of the judges from the beginning. Not all successful artists have GLAM style concerts, his scream factor is a very specific target market. Tone that down and he would have won.
Posted by: bearbydesign | May 21, 2009 at 05:01 AM
Thank you Adam for being such a great gay role model and a true gentleman. From all your fans in CANADA!!!
