Gay TV on a Friday Night: 'Smallville' and John Waters

Hey, television fans, it's Friday! You know what that means: Ghost Whisperer and Medium -- tonight! -- for a superfemme, supernatural night of television on CBS. Oh, you didn't know? Well, your Gramps probably did. Ghost Whisperer, which is allegedly very popular among senior citizens (talk about morbid), is back tonight at 8 o’clock for a fifth season of Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) talking to dead people. Fans should watch tonight's premiere to see a telling future flash of her baby's inherited gifts. If you stay tuned, at 9 o’clock season 6 of Medium kicks off on the show’s new network, CBS. Same old entrancing medium Patricia Arquette witnessing murders in her dreams.

Over on a more youth-oriented network, the CW has the premiere of the ninth season of Smallville. This nerd-adored Superman TV series has the gorgeous Tom Welling in the hero’s role, but never the tights. As the young, hunky Clark edges closer and closer to his Man of Steel destiny, his relationships have to change because, you know, Superman has no friends.

Be sure to check out Real Time With Bill Maher tonight at 11 on HBO with guest John Waters. We're sure rousing political banter and social debate will reign supreme as usual, but with any luck there might be some information about a new Waters project. Times like these are just screaming for a cinematic interpretation through the unique perspective of a true cult filmmaker.

Tell us: Any Friday night programs among your favorites?
Bonus: What’s your favorite John Waters feature: Pink Flamingos, Desperate Living, Hairspray, Cry-Baby, Serial Mom, Cecil B. Demented, or A Dirty Shame?

I hope and pray smallville does not jump on the (make everyone watch gays kissing on television)band wagon. I really like the show. I do not want to give it up, but I will to protect my children. I have been a fan of "Superman" and the Justice League since I was a little girl. I had to stop certain shows like "flashforward"(the FBI wannabees), Heros (the clare roomate crush?) becaues my children have the right to sit in front of television and see shows without swaring, drug abuse, homosexuality, gang violence. race degregation, and over the top sex scenes. Shows such as those mentioned should be on cable channels away from respectable eyes. Tom Welling you are on the executive team now (congragulations),please Tom do not let the show go to filth. There is nothing good to watch on television anymore. I have two shows I watch now, yours and one daytime channel that has not gone gay on the world.I do not mean to sound prejudice, but I am sure I speak for millions who are unable to post.
