Kirk vs. Kirk

Star Trek Cast When the first Star Trek series debuted in 1966, Lyndon Johnson was president and it would be another three years before man would walk on the moon. Made up of five television series with a total of 700 episodes, 11 feature films and over 40 years of mythos, few media brands can match the legacy that is Star Trek. That kind of history comes with joyful advantages (a rabid fan base) and cumbersome baggage (a rabid fan base).

A Big Loincloth To Fill

Titans As with most of the recent remakes of classic '80s films, I'm not sure we really need a new version of "Clash of the Titans."

Granted, the stop-motion special effects (we used to call it "claymation" back in the day) left alot to be desired, but that didn't overshadow the epic storyline, rich with mythical characters -- and of course how sexy Harry Hamlin looked in his physical prime, who by the way is still devilishly handsome.

Last House on the Left: Keep Walking Past It

Last House on the Left There was a time, not so long ago, when horror films as we know them didn’t exist. There was the suspense genre, whose whodunit twists and turns were meant to keep you on the edge of your seat. And there were monster flicks meant to give you nightmares and make you check under you bed at the sound of each crack and creek. But the true source of horror, the capacity to which we can be cruel and sadistic to one another, wasn’t really captured on film until the early ‘70s.

BSG: No Gay for You!

Jamie Bamber Battlestar Galactica We’ve finally hit a milestone in my Galactica-loving career. With Lt. Gaeta dead and gone, there isn’t much more Perez Hilton style outing I can do on the series. All kidding aside, I had hopes that Gaeta would have been the focus of a gay centric episode for the series. Especially since it was established that Gaeta was bisexual. .Now before I’m crucified, yes I know it doesn’t always have to be about being gay.

Traditionally, the gay card is usually pulled off as a sensational tool meant to increase ratings or a way for the series to be “bold.” Example being Misha Barton’s character’s same-sex romance on the O.C. a few years back. However, Galactica has a way of throttling threw relevant cultural topics such as abortion, terrorism, discrimination, and class struggle.

Joel Hodgson Reveals All: “Mystery Science Theater” Creator is Back in a Big Way

Joeltoday8by10Remember how much fun those wasted evenings at home were, back high school?  The nights where you and your friends watched really bad late night movies and you'd start running commentary and making jokes at what you were watching?  Imagine if all your jokes were not only really smart and incredibly funny but you actually earned a living at being an armchair wisenheimer.

That's what "Mystery Science Theater 3000" creator Joel Hodgson did.  What he turned that innocent teenage activity into is pop culture history.

Battlestar Galactica: The Final Revelations are Upon Us.

Alessandro Juliani Battlestar Galactica Epic. It’s the only word I can find to describe the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica which premiered the second half of its fourth season on SciFi channel last month. Since its debut in 2002, the series has held virtually no prisoners while blasting through uncharted waters of the SciFi genre. There is little doubt— even to the most casual of viewers—that Galactica is more than just simple SciFi. It’s the standard of television. Often exploring higher themes of religion, humanity, and politics, Galactica has proven itself to be a militant political drama that disects the world we live in through its various themes. With the series coming to an end in March, fans should strap on for the final ride because Galactica intends to go out on top.

"Lost" Returns: Was It Worth Waiting For?

Josh-holloway-abc-2 I thought last night's season premiere of Lost was worth the long wait.

Truly, it was amazing. Before every commercial break, there was a mini-cliffhanger that had me freaking out.

That said, I find the premiere hard to write about—any episode of Lost is hard to write about—just because so many questions are raised, and I'm always left somewhat confused.
